Have you heard the news? The National Enquirer is coming to town. Yes, yes folks. They can't wait to talk to our diligent, astute investigative hometown reporters. Wow. Just wonder how sleazy things will get! They notified us they will be in town Sunday on the very same day the Herald's "Citizen of the Year" Award will be announced! What a coincidence. Keep reading...

Maybe while visiting our lovely town, and taking in a show at Sanford's Main attraction, they will offer a good price for our hometown paper. To be sure! To be sure Mr. Editor will retire. I just can't see the gentleman wanting any part of a sleazy paper! I bet the NC Press Attorneys will be happy. Less work. But they deserve praise for their effortless reviews of the letters written by Lee County "conservatives". Don't worry liberals. You're letters are so accurate and honest that they just get published. Right!

I say this because of the outstanding fine work by Mr. Ball concerning an email a commissioner wrote in the dead of night. And after, I might add, contentious meetings with those in our county leadership positions who have disdain for taxpayers! I'm on the email chain. I freaking agree with it. There are people in this county who will gladly spend taxpayer dollars faster than Sarah Palin packs a pistol! You bet'cha.

I am angry due to the hypocrisy (more on that below) that is plain as day and the danger some of us may be in due to the release of the information. They all fell for the trap the jolly citizen has been after all these years: To bring down a Republican on the BOC. Not just saying that. The proof is abundant.

Could of been you who got the info. I don't care. The county manager's staff failed all of us miserably. They have now put alot of us in danger of retaliation by releasing a cd containing all of Commissioner Womack's emails and God knows what else to a person who is on a relentless pursuit of destruction. I would venture to guess these emails will not stay with just the jolly citizen!

ALERT: Now there's ammo against anyone who considers running for the BOE or BOC!
Don't you think for one moment they won't use it! Don't you dare take it for granted there will be any chance of integrity showed. Not once.

The jolly citizen asked me for copies of my letters to the editor. Claimed he wanted his readers to understand where I was coming from. Thank God I listened to my conscious. When I said no, I get another hit piece on me in the paper. The letters can be obtained at the Herald or if the jolly citizen would pay to have access to their website. But I am so thankful I didn't agree.

Gentle reminder: Mr. Womack is not up for re-election. Much to the dismay of the jolly citizen and the liberals on our boards and around town. And this person has the nerve to say on facebook that my letters to the editor are making a negative impact in Lee County. I make people think. Not lose their jobs nor destroy their lives.

BTW I am not going to post the email. Don't ask for it. I have it. But I am as guilty as anyone for writing stuff and not standing back and checking what I said or who I am copying.

So about the hypocrisy comment: My friends, let me remind you that no one downtown on St. Claire Court thought it was worthy to publish an email that resulted in a man losing his job or even pursue the story. Mr. Womack's email hasn't.  Oh yes, don't be grinning so fast members of the BOE and BOC and LIBERALS. You are as guilty as sin of doing things that harm others and supporting such actions. You just haven't been caught: yet. Nevertheless, the Super's email resulted in Mark Otto being fired. No one can deny that. He got fired after being put on probation for writing the email. Chain of events are telling.

No, I don't think the Super called Sysco and demanded Mark to be fired. But, as sure as the sun comes up, we have a few people in and from this town who would and probably did do the deed.
Just my not so humble .......

And no one at our local paper regarded it as "news worthy". But a letter from a sitting commissioner, who has a much stellar background and has never sued taxpayers nor taken "kids" to court like the Super has, is?  Note: This is my blog and I can ask the questions. By the way, where did the Herald get the story in the first place?

But now a can of worms has been opened. The cd with thousands of emails had privilege information. Information that was suppose to be protected by HIPPA. Information that our county manager and staff didn't deem necessary to review. You know what they say: "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer!"

Nothing hits home quite like having it happen here.

But alas, what's done is done.

Lift your glass or coffee cup up and proclaim: "Cheers to Mr. Keith Clark!" Mission accomplished.

Well done! Well done! How much are you selling copies of the cd for?

Are you listening? Are you listening to your family, your friends, etc? Do you hear what some of them are saying? I was appalled today by someone who called himself a Christian. Yet it seemed he was undecided on whether to vote for Obama or the Republican candidate.

On Facebook, a friend posted:

"Who thinks the president's race may not be decided by the time it gets here? Any chance?"

My reply:

Sheila Barber "Not me. We have the power to make sure it's settled. but it sure is fun watching the media trip over themselves and think they will pick our candidate. Because my pick will be ANYBODY BUT OBAMA!

PERSON I don't buy into the "Anyone but Obama" idea. I'll reserve my final vote for whenever the nominees are finalized and see how they debate each other. I'll admit readily that Obama has let us down on a number of fronts. However, there are some candidates worse for our country than Obama, and they are in the Republican race. As a Christian, I tend to frame my decisions by thinking about how Jesus would think of certain things. I want to hear more from all the candidates about the issues that Jesus spoke most about: justice, poverty, and hunger, for example.

PERSON: To clarify, I don't mean that all the current Republican nominees are worse that Obama... I just want to see who the final Republican nominee will be before I choose between a sitting president and a new candidate. That's all...

How, just tell me how, can someone call themselves a follower of Christ yet not see what the liberal agenda has done to our society? I mean, if you want to talk about justice, poverty, and hunger, let's talk. Let's talk about how God said a lazy person shouldn't eat. Let's talk about an eye for an eye. Let's talk about abortion and how it is nothing more than murder (any justice there for the innocent human being?). Oh that will get me in trouble. So be it. If my comments offend you, get a life.

Somebody explain how we can legislate, and fund, the killing of babies then hold vigils for those on death row? The liberals will fight you tooth and nail about a woman's right to choose. Last I checked, the Bible tells me my body is God's temple. I should take care of it. I don't. I weigh too much. I don't get enough rest. And I fail daily on just about everything. Those are things I will overcome with God's help and God's help only. Not my government's.

The world, people, is hurting. But our hypocrisy of caring to the point of encouraging government to keep us from cradle to grave is not Christian-like. We are to be examples to the world. Lazy people are not examples. We are to show people how to fish. Not just give them the fish. Am I talking to the choir? Or am I ticking a few of you off? I don't care. I'm too old to care who likes me anymore. I'm too passionate about my country to shut up.

So to those of you who are wishy washy and can't see the fate of our country, you get what you deserve.

Obama has bought you with his lies and unconstitutional actions. Many of us tried to tell you. It is not the Republicans who are keeping you down. It's the Democrats and their elitists attitudes. Just don't cry to me. I am probably going to say "I told you so.

By the way, your so-called Messiah is nothing like the real one. The real one would not lead you astray. The real one wants you successful so YOU, not government, can help and encourage others. And he doesn't live at 1600 Pennyslvania Avenue.

Who is bigger, our God, or our government? Who is more reliable

Incentives Gone Wild!

Have you ever noticed that every time government gets involved in the private sector, it always has the ability to screw things up? The same can be said about government incentives.

With the successful track record of the U.S. Post Office, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the ever solvent Social Security and Medicare Systems, it is only fitting that the always financially astute Department of Energy, now find themselves providing loan guarantees for start up “green industries!”

Have you heard of Solyndra? You know the premier solar company touted by our Dear Leader as the green job maker of the future? The green energy company that relished the benefit of the tax payer’s largess to the tune of $528,000,000.00 in government loan guarantees! That is over a half a BILLION dollars! With all that government money, Solyndra filed for bankruptcy and laid off employees. Of course, Solyndra is nothing like the Enron Corporation that was connected to the evil George W. Bush! So it is not surprising that the progressive media fails to beat the drum day after day, for the failure of Solyndra as they did against Enron? Besides, it is tax payer’s money that was frittered away, not private investors.

Another company receiving a loan guarantee of $43,000,000 (that is $43 million for the mathematically challenged) from the ever business savvy Department of Energy, Beacon Power has also filed for bankruptcy this past November. Then of course there is Evergreen Solar Inc. that received a paltry $5.3 million in stimulus cash in order to make ‘institutions of higher indoctrination” (universities) in Massachusetts “GREEN!” Well you guessed it. Evergreen Solar filed for bankruptcy protection as well.

Then we have the troubled lithium battery company Ener1, also promised $118.5 million in grant money from the 2009 stimulus package. You remember the stimulus package superbly orchestrated by our Dear Leader and his progressive comrades in the U.S. Congress in order to keep unemployment below 8%?

Let us not forget that SpectraWatt, another solar cell company in New York, received a tidy little sum of $500,000 grant as a result of the Stimulus Package. I know, I know, what is a measly $500,000 grant to the average taxpayer today? Surely it is chump change! Then there is the evil corporation, Mountain Plaza Inc. who received $424,000 of tax payer money from the Environmental Protection Agency, laundered as a grant through the Tennessee Department of Transportation. They too have filed for bankruptcy. . .

In October of last year, we discover the Department of Energy provided a $529 million U.S. taxpayer funded loan to Fisker Car Company that will build the electric Karma sports car, in Finland! Yes, our Dear Leader enjoys and certainly knows how to spread the wealth around! Surely the United Auto Workers collective is happy that their international brethren will enjoy our tax money?

Now the culmination of stimulus / incentives gone wild! You know the corporation too big to fail, General Motors or GM? Now affectionately called Government Motors as we the so-called taxpayers hold 25% interest in the company.

We now learn that the “Government Motors” premier “green” car, the Chevy Volt apparently costs a little bit more than the actual $40,000 per car price tag. You see, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy found that the taxpayer subsidies will total nearly $250,000 per Chevy Volt!” There you have it! Taxpayer incentives from the local, state, and federal level always add to the real cost of any product. Which in most cases incentives force us all to pay more!

Let us not forget that the Chevy Volt enjoys a stellar performance record as it’s range of 40 miles per charge greatly diminishes in freezing weather, the charging system is prone to fires, survival in an accident is lessoned with 450 lbs of battery to contend with in a collision, and then the emergency rescue personnel are subject to electrocution while extracting the injured passengers! Don’t you just love being forced to go green?

How can government justify taking risks with tax payer’s money, by doling it out as “incentives,” without a track record of success? Of course most of the pay offs were to “political contributors” who in turn will return the favor! Can you say, Corrupt Chicago Corporate Cronyism?

So the next time the Lee County Economic Development Corporation comes up with a wonderful tax payer funded scheme, just remember the words of Michigan State Representative Tom McMillan:

It just goes to show there are certain folks [in Washington and Lansing] who will spend anything to get their vision of what people should do. It’s a glaring example of the failure of central planning trying to force citizens to purchase something they may not want…. They should let the free market make those decisions.

I was going to take a few more days off but how mercy I can't. Lloyd Jennings keeps filling up my mailbox with stuff you need to know about!

I'm sure you are wondering what in the world my headline is about. I am asking you, imploring you to "eat more chicken" in 2012. Get up and take the family to Chick-Fil-A. They are being targeted by progressive views because they believe in Jesus and they put their money where their heart is. Here's the article from National Review Online Lloyd sent.

So, what’s the problem? Well, Chick-fil-A is run by devout Christians who believe in strong marriages, devoted families, and the highest standards of character for their workers. The restaurant chain’s official corporate mission is to “glorify God” and “enrich the lives of everyone we touch.” The company’s community-service initiatives, funded through its WinShape Foundation, support foster-care, scholarship, summer-camp, and marriage-enrichment programs. On Sunday, all Chick-fil-A stores close so workers can spend the day at worship and rest.

Meals on Wheels has unfulfilled Christmas wishes

Durham, N.C. — Meals on Wheels of Durham asked its more than 200 clients what one item they would like for Christmas, but the program did not receive enough donations to fulfill those requests.

Each client was told they could ask for something worth $20 or less. Many asked for basic necessities, such as underwear, shirts and socks.

"We ran a little bit short this year and are hoping we can fill some of the gaps for the clients (who) are in need of certain things," said Laura Todd, volunteer coordinator for Meals on Wheels. "We had some people asking for things like silverware because they use plastic (utensils)."

For many of the clients, the only visitors they have are Meals on Wheels volunteers.

I was a Girl Scout and not just in elementary school, either. I was in Scouts from 2^nd grade until I graduated high school in 1977. Girls Scouts was already liberal then. In Cadettes (middle school), we learned about girl power, and how girls didn’t need boys and how boys oppressed girls. In Senior scouting (high school), we learned about the meaninglessness of only being a wife and mother, about sexual freedom, reproductive choices (aka abortion), and about men being unimportant. We were taught that situational and personal ethics were the basis for all decision-making. This was taught widely in my local GS council, which happened to be the GS Council of the Nation’s Capital.

Of course, this feminist view of womanhood was also society’s attitude of the day when it came to women and their changing roles. It seemed like no one, including Girl Scouts, knew how to teach women and girls how to be strong without also teaching them to be liberal feminists. Many women have since figured out how to both strong and non-feminist, and are passing that on to their daughters. Girl Scouts, though, appears to be sticking to the same agenda as the last 30+ years. Yes, I know there are troops that are led by conservative women, but the national dues for these troops still goes to support the national Girl Scout machine, the same machine that published the book with the link to Media Matters for America.

I can’t even begin to list all the life skills I learned in scouting. But, along with all the wonderful parts of scouting, came the not-so-wonderful part, the taking advantage of my youth and my optimism and my idealistic view of the world. My mind was wide open in those middle and high school years, and many liberal ideals and beliefs crept in; and were tossed in via Girl Scouts, school and media. It took years to chase them back out.

I am not surprised about Media Matters for America and Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts have the same message now as in the 70’s, just wrapped in a different package. I am glad there is an alternative now – American Heritage Girls. I wish there had been one when my girls were growing up.

Is Chairman Ty a Closet Muslim?

In his most recent Letter to the Editor of The Sanford Herald, the ever Progressive Lee County Democrat Chairman Ty Stumpf wrote:

“Lee County Republican Chairman Charles Staley’s latest letter to the editor would be an effort at damage control. In it, he manages to ring a few Republican dog bells, like the ever-present need to mention either communism or socialism, in order to get some among their ranks to salivate on cue.”

First, everyone knows the Democrat party at the local, national, and state level, just love to covet the private property of each and every American. That property can be in the form of my trees that I cannot harvest or sell due to “federal wetland regulations” or the very income, from my labor that the state and federal government confiscates as “income tax.” Not to forget I pay the county government for the right to have land, vehicles and buildings, in the form of property taxes. Of course the Democrats as well RINOs would love to take more for public purposes such as golf courses, theaters, and corporate welfare.

Second, we know that the mantra of the Democrat party is to support the progressive income tax in order to justify “the more you make, the more we take.” With the 99% crowd attacking the so-called “rich,” everyone must know that “rich” means anyone whose income is one penny more than someone else.

Third, the Progressive Democrat party supports the Death Tax. You shall not be allowed to keep within the family any inheritance, as it rightly belongs to the masses! The more you had is the more they want!

Fourth, no doubt if you don’t pay your taxes or you attempt to find a foreign tax haven, the Progressive Democrats and RINOs would most certainly prevent you from fleeing and confiscate your property to benefit the common good!

Fifth, the current Democrat administration in Washington, has successfully nationalized large portions of the financial system, student loan programs, mortgage assets, and with the pending Frank Dodd Act, we’ll see even more centralized control of the banking industry!

Sixth, the current Democrat Administration is moving to control the internet, and regurgitate the “Fairness Doctrine” in order to control “right wing hate radio.” The Democrat Disinformation Dissemination Bureaus (known as the main stream media) continue to control the information available to the “dumb-masses.” The Progressives do enjoy promoting light rail, high speed rail, and other money losing, tax payer funded public transportation ventures in order to control what you can and cannot drive!

Seventh, the ever progressive Democrat administration in Washington along with sympathetic RINOs successfully nationalized two major auto manufacturing giants as they were “too big to fail!” Obama Care is the ultimate government takeover of one seventh of the national economy! They are also working to destroy the power generation industry that uses coal and eventually lead to a national energy agency that will cater to the “global warm-mongers!” We are privy to the recent successes that the billions of dollars spent on “green energy,” now helping to control our daily consumption of evil carbon-emitting energy.

Eighth, Democrats demand that “collective bargaining” be forced upon everyone. Forced “card check” will thrust labor unions on every business big or small. This will continue the workers support for the Progressive Democrat party through their union dues recycled as political contributions.

Ninth, Democrats through the various agencies continue to effect change within agriculture, treating them the same as any other industry, imposing environmental, labor, energy and natural resources regulations that will ensure both the industrial and agricultural sectors remain under the control of the central government. Progressives and RINOs alike enjoy the largess of federal “ethanol” subsidies.

Tenth, the bedrock of the Progressive Democrat agenda is to assure that a free and public education for all children remains in control of the government. Now the Occupy Wall Street 99% is demanding that this free and public education continues on through to the university as well!

For the historically challenged, the above ten items actually paraphrase the Ten Tenets of the Communist Manifesto, written by the always progressive Karl Marx. . . Chairman Ty nobody is salivating, it is the truth. Today’s Progressive Democrat Party led by Our Dear Leader Barak Hussein Obama totally embraces the political philosophy of radical Marxism.

I know communism in its rawest form, having for three years lived, worked, and patrolled the border between the “communist” German Democratic Republic (East Germany) and the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany). My family and I traveled throughout East Germany, East Berlin and Poland, as well Moscow, the heart of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics! I saw first hand the parallels with the socialist welfare culture in my country and the pitiful lives of those living in communist countries! Yep, when our Dear Leader gets done “spreading the wealth around,” we can all be equally miserable!

As for his reference to Republicans as “dogs” leads one to question: Is Chairman Ty a closet Muslim? For those of you culturally challenged, in the art of international disparaging terms, the ultimate insult in the Muslim-Arab culture is to call someone a dog. . . I would not be surprised if Chairman Ty could, he too would have thrown a shoe at Councilman Charles Taylor!

Merry Christmas!

Hello friends! I love this time of year. I woke up this morning around 4:30 am and made some hot chocolate. Sat in my recliner and just looked at my Christmas tree. What a beautiful tree. It's full of my favorite ornaments: Barbie, Tom and Jerry, Frosty, Rudolph, Lion King, and of course, some homemade ones my kids made in elementary school. I wish they had made them through high school.

And one special one is a replica of my grandson's hand. Made for me by Nana.

I suspect somewhere under that tree there is another ornament among all those presents. I get one every year for Christmas and hope that never stops. No one better ever come to me and say we need a smaller tree. No, in reality, we need a bigger one. But that's the one argument not worth having. Now all I need is snow.

It's been a good year for the Barber family. I know some of you have lost jobs, family members, and other precious things. I count my blessings and pray that we gain smart individuals in the next election that know how to reduce regulation, make smart business decisions (not academic ones) and get out of our back pocket. The smartest one that will jumpstart the economy right now is repeal, repeal, repeal ObamaCare!

Every time I hear little feet in the morning, or get a request for a Mickey Mouse pancake, I know I am so blessed.

When I wake up Monday - Friday, I have job to go to. Sometimes it bleeds into the weekend and wee hours of the morning, but it's my job. And I am so blessed.

When my hubby leaves work, I get a call about dinner. Everyday. I barely cook anymore. I am so blessed. He cooks far better than me anyway.

So as we close up the "Fresh Brewed Conservatism" shop for the year and take a much needed break I want to leave you with some observations:

1) If Dems Praise you...You ain't Conservative!

Good grief. When you have Dems praising your actions, calling you stellar, a champion for the little guy, whatever, sir or madam, you're not a conservative. Will someone please call Doc Oldham and tell him to just switch sides? The man hasn't met a tax increase nor incentivethat he doesn't like. The RINO gets high accolades from one of the most liberal commissioners - "we will ram tax increases down your throat" Richard Hayes.

"What a guy" he says about Doc for standing up against the "evil Republicans".

And while Mr. Hayes believes people want Democrats back in power, he fails to note our memories are not too short. We remember. His party has done enough damage to our country. Keep on reading....

2) Dems refuse to give the whole story...

Dear dear Ty Stumpf writes today (it's on the Herald's website) that in the end the voters just want a Democrat. Yea, the ones who vote themselves a paycheck sure do, Ty! But what he fails to note is that Walter McNeil defeated Ed Page not because the voters just wanted a democrat.

He defeated Ed due to demographics. Statistics show that majority of blacks vote Democratic. Numbers don't lie Ty. People do. And I'm not being racist by stating so. It's a fact.

And don't get so cocky, Ty (Lee County Democratic chairman). Ummm, 2010? Did you forget that "off year" election? Jim beat Barney Fife. Linda beat biden-lite Womble who said "What does illegal immigration have to do with Lee County?" Ellmers beat "Who are you" Bobby Etheridge. And we turned over the NC House and Senate to Republicans!
And the US House to boot!

Ty - the party you represent would make my daddy throw up and he was a lifelong Democrat. Thank God I didn't follow suit.

3) Citizens who won't do their homework: My take on this? You get what you deserve. Yep, I said it. Vote Democrat and vote your liberties and freedom away. Vote Democrat and watch your jobs disappear. They hate capitalism. They want Peter to pay for Paul. And when he refuses, he's a racist!

Numbers, again, don't lie. President Bush never had unemployment go this high and stay this way this long under him. I miss him. I bet some of you do too.

To you Obama lovers: How's that hope and change working out for you?

4) Tim Tebow: Something is happening. While eating dinner tonight, we listened to the ESPN commentators describe how stunned they are at Tebow's comeback miracles. Basically, they say they can't explain it. What I believe they wanted to say, but felt like they couldn't was the obvious, God's touch is on Tim. First they mock him for his faith. Now they praise him. Tim is Tim. The same guy that he always has been. The NFL is full of thugs. It's obvious Tim isn't a thug.

Why don't we all act like that? What are we afraid of? Being mocked? Yea. We are.

5) Now, what do I want for Christmas?

I want my kids happy. I want them to find someone who will love them, take care of them as a wife or husband should, and to be prosperous.

I want Kayne to believe in Santa and to keep that childhood spirit forever.

I want a President that loves America.
Not one who calls me a terrorist and then dines with our enemies.

I want a President that realizes he doesn't just represent the Occupiers. Who by the way, are not 99% of us. They are only a small faction - just like those who demanded ObamaCare. The heart of America works. It doesn't protest "the true American way".

I want a Congress that isn't afraid to be men and women. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Or be fired.

I want the mainstream media to come to terms with their lies and deceit. I know it will snow in Hell before that happens. I can still wish.

I wish that others understood like I do that we have the most awesome military. And the men and women who serve, have served, and have died for us deserve the very best.

And I not only wish, but hope you and your families have a
very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Part 2: Rebuttal to Comments on "Bricks through the Door"

Clearly, Randall Lee Yow misses the point of my last posting,
"Bricks Through the Door", on Fresh Brewed Conservatism. We as a country are descending into the abyss of radicalism the likes we have not seen since the 1930s. The incident involving the Christian school and the “gaystopo” terrorists whose purpose is quite clear, to intimidate religious freedom, free speech and “peaceful assembly” and still to this day the “Democrat Disinformation Dissemination Bureaus” (main stream media) have yet to give it national coverage.

At the same time they embrace the so called “Occupy Wall Street Protestors” whom we learn each and everyday represent the most radical elements of our society (anarchists, communists, labor unions, anti-Semites, neo-Nazis, former ACORN nuts, public defecators, public urinators, rapists, drug dealers, sexual perverts, and other dregs from some of our “institutions of higher indoctrination”). This so-called “movement” (similar to defecating) receives public acclamation and support from our leading Democrat party members from the President all the way down to our own North Carolina Secretary of State.

Oh, and by the way, don’t you find that odd? How can the Secretary of State for North Carolina, Elaine Marshall, whose sworn duty (job) it is to promote business (corporations) within the state, how can she join the anti-capitalist and neo-Marxist march on Raleigh? No wonder business’s demand “tax-payer” incentives to locate here . . . they clearly wish to minimize any potential future losses if we increase the central planning philosophy (Economic Development Corporations) that drove many a command economy into the ground.

Randall, please share with us the prominent elected Republican leadership that publicly condoned the two episodes you cite as “see they do it too!” Oh for the benefit of our readers, that lovely lady assaulted at the Rand Paul event, she is a professional agitator whose purpose it is too provoke such an incident and garner national coverage by the myrmidons in “Democrat Disinformation Dissemination Bureaus” (main stream media).

This attempted “gotcha” ploy used by Mr. Yow is similar to the hubbub that the “Democrat Disinformation Dissemination Bureaus” (main stream media) used when questioning Republican candidates in South Carolina . You know, do they support the Confederate Flag on the capital grounds? Of course there was absolutely no mention that the Confederate Flag was placed upon the grounds by a Democrat legislature and signed into law by a Democrat Governor.

Now we are witnessing the character assassination of presidential candidate Herman Cain by the same “Democrat Disinformation Dissemination Bureaus.” Funny, they seem not to have any compunction to look deep into our Dear Leader Barak Hussein Obama’s past. You know his association with anti-American radicals (Wall Street Occupiers), Islamic terrorists, and other shady characters? Nor any questions regarding why, “we the people” can’t see his academic achievements or writings? This coming from a man who as a candidate promised a “transparent” administration! Of course we should understand his handler’s definition of “transparent.” Or perhaps, our Dear Leader lies through his teleprompter?

Randall, your party and its cohorts are promoting something foreign to this once flourishing country. A country blessed by GOD from its inception. Now as a nation we are walking away from God’s Law and violating every tenet of his law as well as our own Constitution.

A few Sundays ago our pastor’s sermon recited the Book of Daniel reflecting on Daniel’s prayer:

Daniel 9:4 - “O Lord, the great and terrible God, who keepest covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from thy commandments and ordinances.”

Daniel 9:9-10 - “To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness; because we have rebelled against him, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God by following his laws, which is set before us by his servants, the prophets.”

9:12 - “He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our rulers who ruled us, by bringing upon us a great calamity.”

As in the Daniel’s time, we too should heed the warning that our country will encounter a great calamity if we do not get right with GOD. Pray for GOD to intercede on behalf or our Country, our families, our friends, and our enemies.

Thanksgiving Day 1944 and 2011

I expected to be in Northern Virginia today, feasting and visiting with my husband’s family. Instead, my husband and older daughter are there, while my younger daughter and I are home waiting for antibiotics to knock the wind out her strep throat. Having some unexpected time to myself today, I settled into my computer chair and preceded with cropping and labeling photos from my late father’s World War II photo album.

It was a robotic task at first. But then a notation on the back of one photo snapped me out of it. Taken November 23, 1944. So close to Thanksgiving, I thought. I wondered how close, so I googled it. November 23, 1944, was Thanksgiving Day.

, I got teary-eyed. Behind that smile, was he thinking about his grandfather, aunts, uncles and cousins? Was he wishing for a slice of turkey and a slab of pumpkin pie? Was he cold? Was he scared? Was he just praying the war would end so he could go home?

Those thoughts fast forwarded me back to today. So many service men and women around the world are giving of themselves right now to protect home and family, just like my dad and the Greatest Generation were doing on Thanksgiving Day 1944.

My mom would often ask everyone to say what they were thankful for before diving into our Thanksgiving dinner. Today, I am thankful for our service men and women, for their willingness to eat their Thanksgiving dinner far away from home, sacrificing so as to protect their families, their fellow countrymen and their way of life.

Proposal to Tax Jack Daniel Whiskey Derailed

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A proposal to tax barrels of Jack Daniel whiskey was derailed Monday evening before it could reach the Tennessee Legislature.

The Moore County Council in Lynchburg voted 10-5 to rescind a vote asking lawmakers to authorize a local referendum on the proposal.

It would have taxed Jack Daniel up to $5 million annually with the revenue going to local coffers.

Charles Rogers of Lynchburg, who had spearheaded the effort, said the issue "is now on life support."

Jack Daniel is the world's top-selling whiskey, distilled in the tiny town which has been celebrated in folksy, black-and-white advertisements for years.

State Rep. David Alexander, who represents Lynchburg and attended the meeting, said he considers the issue dead.

"It's the will of the people," he said about the council vote. "They have spoken."

A distillery spokesman did not return an after-hours call for comment.

A previous vote was 9-5 to send the proposal to the legislature, and Rogers said he was told the town had been depicted as greedy in worldwide news reports about the proposal since the first vote.

"Some people thought this type of publicity was unwarranted," Rogers said in a telephone interview.

The 145-year-old distillery, owned by Louisville, Ky.-based Brown-Forman Corp., now pays $1.5 million in local property taxes. Distillery officials had opposed the measure, saying Jack Daniel is already paying its fair share.

Now, please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason.

It could be his head wasn’t screwed on just right.

It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.

Michigan Lawmaker Tries to Lure Jack Daniel's Amid Tax Dispute in Tennessee

Aside from a splash of Coke, nothing is more commonly associated with Jack Daniel's than the town of Lynchburg, Tenn.

But a Michigan lawmaker is hoping the renowned distiller will abandon its Tennessee roots and relocate to his state over a looming tax dispute in the place where Jack Daniel's whiskey was born.

Michigan House Speaker Jase Bolger earlier this month wrote a letter to Jack Daniel's GM Tommy Beam in a bid to convince him that Michigan's abundant fresh water and business-friendly tax code would be the perfect climate for his distillery.

Bolger sent the letter after seeing a Fox News story last month about a proposed tax increase on the whiskey giant. Nothing is formally on the table yet, but a private citizen has been pushing for a $10 tax on every Jack Daniel's barrel. The Moore County Council, without ruling on the proposal one way or the other, has approved a measure to seek permission from the state to put the question to ballot sometime next year -- perhaps as early as March.

In his letter to Beam, Bolger wrote that he was watching the dispute with "great interest."

"Far too often, some governments believe job creators are a bottomless barrel of revenue that can be tapped again and again," Bolger wrote.

Bullying - A Serious Issue...

My sister is a grandmother. And she has seen first hand what bullying can do to a child. And when she talked with authorities? They brushed it off! I want to know how many times this child told someone at school, like a teacher or friend, and nobody listened.

Chadbourn, N.C. — Columbus County authorities are investigating the death of a 10-year-old girl who hanged herself Monday night after repeatedly being bullied at school.

Samantha West said she found her daughter, Jasmine McClain, dead in her bedroom Monday night.

"I just lost it because she took her last breath in my arms," West said Wednesday. "She was a loving child. I just don't understand."

Chadbourn Police Chief Steven Shaw said her death was obviously suicide, and he was about to close the case when he started checking posts on Facebook and other social media about Jasmine and her death.

"Children started coming forward and making accusations that she was bullied – and bullied bad – in school," Shaw said. Read more:

Here is my sister's letter to the editor of the paper. And all we ever hear about from our school officials is "it's all about the children." Hogwash!

Bullying/Gangs in Wilson County is real:

I am a concerned grandmother who has had her granddaughter bullied and attacked and beat by a gang of blacks here in Wilson County. The bullying started last year at Fike High school and it is continuing this year in school.

Last year my daughter and I met with the Asst. Principal about this to try to get it resolved. Well, summer came and all went back to normal. But when school started back it started all over again. I again, met this time with Guidance Counselor and the Asst. Principal again. No one was aware of it going on this year.

Two Saturday’s ago, she and a friend walked out of her apartment and was jumped by a gang of blacks. They hit her, left teeth marks on her body and bit her finger to the bone. The other girl was attacked also. I have learned that the ages of the thugs were 16 -27 years old. A very concerned neighbor saw what was happening and called the authorities.

When they arrived one of the girls attacked the police officer and I am sure she was arrested right then and there. Now my granddaughter has to see a probation officer (for what I don’t know why, she never started the fight). She had to have a tetanus shot and now has to go to court. But you can rest assure the perpetrators will be let go. She is afraid to go to school for being attacked again.

As her grandmother I have tried to talk with her but she won’t open up, she cries and all she tells us is that everything is alright. She told school authorities that when they call her to the office, they are making the matter worse. They have called her a snitch and she doesn’t want any adults to do anything. This is what she has to put up with each day not knowing when or where she will be attacked.

So if you think bullying/gangs is something that is only in the big cities, think again. My granddaughter has the marks on her body to show that it is here in Wilson, NC. Sometimes I think the schools look at this too lightly. I know I use to, but when I have seen firsthand what bullying or gang attacks can do to a child, it is nothing to just turn your head away from.

I hope all who reads this will open their eyes more and remember our children/grandchildren are so very precious to us and we will do whatever it takes to protect them.

Yesterday, after word got out (via a post here on the Foundry) regarding new “mandatory fees” on Christmas trees imposed by the Obama Department of Agriculture (USDA), the White House moved quickly to suspend implementation of the new tax.

The fees, which were supported by an industry group called the Christmas Tree Check-off Task Force, were earmarked for industry marketing efforts. USDA’s role was to make sure that all growers helped pay for those efforts, whether they supported them or not. Those growers, at least for now, have been given a reprieve. But the ill-starred Christmas tree tax was far from the only such mandatory marketing levy on agricultural products from popcorn and blueberries to mangos.

Beef: $1 per head of cattle, totaling $80 million annually;
Blueberries: $12 per ton;
Cotton: $1 per bale of cotton handled;
Dairy products: 15-cent-per-hundredweight assessment on all milk produced in the contiguous 48 states;
Eggs: 10 cents per 30-dozen cases of eggs sold, bringing in $18 million annually;
Fluid milk: 20-cent-per-hundredweight assessment;
Hass avocados: 2.5 cents per pound, bringing in almost $30 million;
Honey packers and importers: 1 cent per pound, totaling $5 million;
Lamb: $0.005 per pound of live lambs sold, with $2 million raised each year;
Mangos: $0.005 per pound, raising $4.3 million;
Mushrooms: 0.005 cents per pound, totaling over $4 million in revenue;
Peanuts: 1 percent of the total value of all farmers stock peanuts, raising $8 million;
Popcorn: 6 cents per hundredweight, raising some $1 million;
Pork: 0.25 percent of market value, raising $3.8 million;
Potatoes: 3 cents per hundredweight, totaling about $12 million;
Soybeans: 0.5 percent of the net market price of the soybeans purchased, averaging $55–60 million per year;
Watermelons: 3 cents per hundredweight on domestic watermelons, and importers pay 6 cents per cwt, bringing in some $2.8 million.

Good day, friends. Hope you have some good brew in your cup. A very large cup. This is a lengthy post.

Anyway, I imagine some of you may look at my title of today's post and wonder "what does she know about winning the White House". Very little. I am no Karl Rove or Dick Morris or Dana Perino, etc. Nope. I am an ordinary citizen who sees the obvious: The Republican establishment in Congress truly thinks they know better than us. They are working with the media to pick the candidate that will likely not obstruct their agenda. Think I'm kidding? Listen to Karl Rove on Foxnews. Do you think they really want a Herman Cain in the WH? Absolutely not. They want someone who won't challenge them. They don't want to be on the "We the People" team. It's far more profitable for them to stay in the "Inside Beltway" crowd. I hate to say it but ...it appears so.

Many of you reading have been coaches at one time or another in your life. Some have coached Little League. Some have coached High School or College. Some are in professional coaching as in Financial Management or Personal coaching like Zig Ziglar.

At some point all of us have coached. We have families. We have subordinates at work, etc. Didn't a "team" work more efficiently?

Now why am I trying to relate coaching and politics? Because I believe with all my heart, the Republicans and Conservatives (AFP, Tea Partiers, etc) all better band together now to defeat the leftist machine. And we can if we use some common ground like "What's best for America" and not "What's best for the party". Many of my Republican friends are not going to like that. Tough. It needs to be said.

As many of you know, I am an avid Duke fan. My house bleeds Duke blue. I watched Coach K get #902 last night. And I was proud. What an accomplishment. I watched as he said when a coach reaches milestones like that, he/she takes everyone who had a hand in it with him. Coach K took his team.

This leads to me reposting one of my favorite columns:

"The Fist Analogy". It first appeared two years ago on another blog I was a part of when the Blue Devils were on the verge of a National Championship. They were a team. They banded together and became National Champions!

We can use that same analogy in politics. If we band together, if the GOP Candidates start pounding what Obama has done to destroy our country, if we collectively use our energy to shut the establishment up and convince them we can do better than Obama but only as a team, we will win folks. And we can do it using ...

"The Fist Analogy".....

What exactly does Coach K say or do that makes any of his teams think they can do the impossible? That makes them act classy, with tenacity, and with determination?

Coach K believes exactly what Babe Ruth meant in the quote above,
It takes a team.

I learned about the "FIST Analogy" by reading Coach K’s book, Leading with the Heart.

Managers, CEOs, coaches, politicians, moms, dads, and definitely anyone who wants to be a leader should be required to read this book.

I can sum it up as follows (excerpts from a term paper assignment in my Management class, summarized):

You are part of a team somewhere. A family is a team. A design group for an industrial dryer is a team. Surgeons and nurses in an operating room are a team. Football, baseball, and basketball players are part of a team. The Founding Fathers were a team. Everywhere you go, teams are working and producing results, good and bad, whether at Starbucks or the Hilton or Congress. But what makes a team “a team”? What core qualities should a team have? And what competencies should a team endeavor to possess?

Coach Mike Krzyzewski said in the book, he likes to think of his teams as a fist. He states, “There are five fundamental qualities that make every team great: communication, trust, collective responsibility, caring and pride. I like to think of each as a separate finger on the fist. Any one individually is important. But all of them together is unbeatable.”(2)

How powerful is the fist? A fist is strong. A fist is united. A fist is unbreakable. Hold a fist to my face and I will freeze with fear. Pump a fist to show support and I feel secure. This analogy can be transformed and used in any business setting, whether in Corporate America or in the small mom and pops all over the country. It can be used in church meetings, mission trips, and family time at the dinner table. However, one, first, must recognize that a great team starts with individuals who possess the fist qualities: communication, trust, collective responsibility, caring and pride.

The first of the fist qualities, Communication, is vital to team building, business, sports or personal. Without communication, how can a group define the good, the bad, or the ugly that may exist? How can the company’s, the team’s or one’s personal goals be communicated if we do not converse with one another? These conversations should not be limited to the employee and manager. We, the team members, have no problem talking around the coffee machine, cafeteria or each other’s desk. We must use them in our families, as well.

The second finger in a fist is trust. According to The Free Dictionary by Farlex (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/), the definition of trust paraphrased is the firm assurance of the capabilities and reputation of another individual. You would not think twice about leaving your newborn with your spouse. We trust our banks with our money. We should be able to trust government to keep us safe. Nonetheless, trust is not something you’re born with.

It must be earned.

The third finger in our fist is collective responsibility. When individuals collectively work towards a common goal, and ignore selfish desires to benefit only themselves, the team will be productive and good results will happen. But this means realizing the majority of fingers pointing will be to ourselves. We will have to take responsibility for our own actions, communicate our needs and desires, and help our family, friends, and neighbors to be the best they can be. It’s a tough job putting others first. But it’s the right thing to do. Ken Blanchard puts collective responsibility in perspective: “None of us is as smart as all of us.”(3)

The fourth finger in our fist analogy is caring. Are we suppose to care for others as much as we care for ourselves? For what purpose? I am an avid Duke Basketball fan. I watch every game I possibly can. When I observe the Duke players, I not only see excellence, but heartfelt caring for each other. I have watched the players pat each other on the back, even after a loss. The captains communicate. They display their hearts each time they hit the wood. They show leadership. My hope is my team, my family, sees this in me.

The fifth finger in the fist analogy is pride. Coach K compared pride as having YOUR signature on whatever you do.2 This attitude is not limited to the basketball court. Whether I am cooking dinner, volunteering at church, designing a database or even taking care of my two year old grandson, the task should be accomplished heartily and to the best of my ability. We should ask ourselves as team members if we are doing that. Are we taking pride in every task, every conversation, every moment of our day? Do you do that?

Pride starts with you - it can make you or break you. But when someone is confident and happy with the situation he/she is in, problems do not seem that big. They are easier to fix. That same confidence bleeds over to the rest of your team. The team becomes cohesive and bonds. This in turn increases productivity, communication, caring, and responsibility. And the quality of output is excellent. Amen!

Now my friends, do this exercise with me:

Look at your palm. Your fingers are outstretched. Think you could defend yourself like that?

Of course not.

Now, form a fist. Feel its' strength? Oh yeah. I might be able to punch something or someone pretty hard. I would at least be a force to deal with.

My friends, that's the attitude we need going into 2012. We need warriors. We need to prepare for battle . We have one chance to bring America back from the brink.

Join the right team and we will take back the White House.

To the Editor:

Where are the Russ Noels of Lee County?

A while ago, a dear friend passed away. He lost his battle with cancer. Unfortunately, we all lost a true patriot in Russ Noel. He was a warrior, and he never backed down from challenging our local, state and federal politicians.

Russ was an Independent, and he was passionate about saving his country — just like many of us. But he was different. I knew after every letter I had published in the paper I would get a call to discuss it. I looked forward to those calls.

Many of us miss him and wish others would come forward to take his reins.

We need people like Russ to take what has become the norm and show how ridiculous society has become by allowing government to encroach itself in every aspect of our lives. Russ would stand tall with me in my disgust with the school board and their insistent denial of the taxpayers wanting accountability. And he would be disgusted with members stating that they would play hide and seek with the Evergreen auditors.

He would stand tall with us on how President Obama has taken our beloved country down a slippery slope. He would make sure you, the citizens, knew how he felt.

So I ask where are the Russ Noels in Lee County? Surely many of you think the same things.

We see how the left and some moderates trash AFP and the tea-partiers. They call us names. They call us racists if we don’t drink the kool-aid and agree with a president who is deliberately ruining our country.

Yet it is the left who keep people poor with their policies and antics. They despise black Republicans and call them atrocious names and ridicule anyone who doesn’t follow their playbook. You don’t need me to say this.

Just open the paper. Put on ABC, CBS, CNN, etc.

That my friends, is un-American. America is the land of opportunity — not just for one race but for all. That’s what conservatives believe.

Unlike the “occupiers,” AFP and the tea-partiers have never beat up people for their beliefs. You never heard of rapes and extreme violence. No, there was never any violence at all. None of us spit on Pelosi and her buddies during the healthcare reform fiasco.

I was there. And no one has ever been able to find a video of such behavior. It simply doesn’t happen.

The occupiers do not represent the heart of America. They are the greedy ones; they want something for nothing. None of them, collectively, could equal what one soldier does for this country. And to think our president “feels the occupiers’ pain” and eggs them on with his class warfare comments.

I am tired of seeing the RINOs and the so-called moderates attack my values. They don’t always do it directly. But when they slam AFP, Lloyd Jennings, conservative commissioners and citizens who want accountability from all of government, that’s exactly what they are doing.

Here’s a new acronym: WWRD — What Would Russ Do? I’ll tell you. He would stand up for his country, and give those attempting to destroy America and Lee County a piece of his mind. He would stand up for you.

Obama Couldn’t Wait: His New Christmas Tree Tax

President Obama’s Agriculture Department today announced that it will impose a new 15-cent charge on all fresh Christmas trees—the Christmas Tree Tax—to support a new Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.

In the Federal Register of November 8, 2011, Acting Administrator of Agricultural Marketing David R. Shipman announced that the Secretary of Agriculture will appoint a Christmas Tree Promotion Board. The purpose of the Board is to run a “program of promotion, research, evaluation, and information designed to strengthen the Christmas tree industry’s position in the marketplace; maintain and expend existing markets for Christmas trees; and to carry out programs, plans, and projects designed to provide maximum benefits to the Christmas tree industry” (7 CFR 1214.46(n)). And the program of “information” is to include efforts to “enhance the image of Christmas trees and the Christmas tree industry in the United States” (7 CFR 1214.10).

To pay for the new Federal Christmas tree image improvement and marketing program, the Department of Agriculture imposed a 15-cent fee on all sales of fresh Christmas trees by sellers of more than 500 trees per year (7 CFR 1214.52). And, of course, the Christmas tree sellers are free to pass along the 15-cent Federal fee to consumers who buy their Christmas trees.

Acting Administrator Shipman had the temerity to say the 15-cent mandatory Christmas tree fee “is not a tax nor does it yield revenue for the Federal government” (76 CFR 69102). The Federal government mandates that the Christmas tree sellers pay the 15-cents per tree, whether they want to or not. The Federal government directs that the revenue generated by the 15-cent fee goes to the Board appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture to carry out the Christmas tree program established by the Secretary of Agriculture. Mr. President, that’s a new 15-cent tax to pay for a Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.

Nobody is saying President Obama doesn’t have authority to impose his new Christmas Tree Tax — his Administration cites the Commodity Promotion, Research and Information Act of 1996. Just because the Obama Administration has the legal power to impose its Christmas Tree Tax doesn’t mean it should do so.

The Milquetoast Radicals

The U.S. economy is probably going to stink for a few more years. It is beset by short-term problems (low consumer demand, uncertain housing prices, too much debt) and long-term problems (wage stagnation, rising health care costs, eroding human capital).

Realistically, not much is going to be done to address the short-term problems, but we can at least use this winter of recuperation to address the country’s underlying structural ones. Do tax reform, fiscal reform, education reform and political reform so that when the economy finally does recover the prosperity is deep, broad and strong.

Unfortunately, the country has been wasting this winter of recuperation. Nothing of consequence has been achieved over the past two years. Instead, there have been a series of trivial sideshows. It’s as if people can’t keep their minds focused on the big things. They get diverted by scuffles that are small, contentious and symbolic.

Take the Occupy Wall Street movement. This uprising was sparked by the magazine Adbusters, previously best known for the 2004 essay, “Why Won’t Anyone Say They Are Jewish?” — an investigative report that identified some of the most influential Jews in America and their nefarious grip on policy.

If there is a core theme to the Occupy Wall Street movement, it is that the virtuous 99 percent of society is being cheated by the richest and greediest 1 percent.

This is a theme that allows the people in the 99 percent to think very highly of themselves. All their problems are caused by the nefarious elite.

Unfortunately, almost no problem can be productively conceived in this way. A group that divides the world between the pure 99 percent and the evil 1 percent will have nothing to say about education reform, Medicare reform, tax reform, wage stagnation or polarization. They will have nothing to say about the way Americans have overconsumed and overborrowed. These are problems that implicate a much broader swath of society than the top 1 percent.

They will have no realistic proposal to reduce the debt or sustain the welfare state. Even if you tax away 50 percent of the income of those making between $1 million and $10 million, you only reduce the national debt by 1 percent, according to the Tax Foundation. If you confiscate all the income of those making more than $10 million, you reduce the debt by 2 percent. You would still be nibbling only meekly around the edges.

The 99-versus-1 frame is also extremely self-limiting. If you think all problems flow from a small sliver of American society, then all your solutions are going to be small, too. The policy proposals that have been floating around the Occupy Wall Street movement — a financial transfer tax, forgiveness for student loans — are marginal.

The Occupy Wall Street movement may look radical, but its members’ ideas are less radical than those you might hear at your average Rotary Club. Its members may hate capitalism. A third believe the U.S. is no better than Al Qaeda, according to a New York magazine survey, but since the left no longer believes in the nationalization of industry, these “radicals” really have no systemic reforms to fall back on.

They are not the only small thinkers. President Obama promises not to raise taxes on the bottom 98 percent. The Occupy-types celebrate the bottom 99 percent. Republicans promise not to raise taxes on the bottom 100 percent. Through these and other pledges, leaders of all three movements are hedging themselves in. They are severely limiting the scope of their proposed solutions.

The thing about the current moment is that the moderates in suits are much more radical than the pierced anarchists camping out on Wall Street or the Tea Party-types.

Dear Friends,

What’s in your cup today? I’m sipping BJ’s Ethiopian brand. This is smooth brew. Man how I wish I had a Sandra’s Apple Cinnamon doughnut with it! Can you smell it? If not, you should call your internet provider and complain!

Anyway, today is my 49^th birthday. I remember when 49 was ancient. Then 49 was just old. Now, 49 means another year of living and waking up on this side of the grass. It also means another year of finally taking care of myself. Just the other day somebody at work told me I looked 10 years younger. My hair is longer and keeps right on growing. I love the new haircut. And another thing: What took me so long to hit the treadmill? Please don’t answer. Sometimes I hate dealing with reality. This week it’s off limits!

49 marks another year of being blessed beyond measure. Another year of being with my sweetheart. And another year of getting to be Kayne’s memaw. Can it get any better?

You bet. This weekend we went to Boone. And if you’ve ever read this blog before, you are bound to know how much I love that place. I swear one day I will own a Christmas farm and sit on my deck with a good cup of brew looking at those majestic mountains.

It was Black Saturday in Boone. That’s a day all the fanswear black to the football game. If any of you have been there during football season, you know Football Saturdays make it impossible to park on King Street or near “The Rock”. Better get there an hour or two before the game just to get a parking space on the road behind King Street. Or else you just might have to take the App Cart from Walmart. And you would know we had to park on that other side. And walk all the way over to the stadium in freezing weather. Sunny but darn cold. Three hours earlier it was snowing!

But I did it. I often wondered if the new knee could handle it. Thanks to the treadmill, it worked just fine. Walking up and down King Street has always been a benchmark. If I can do that, I can do just about anything. Right!

Thank God for good doctors, physical therapists and the sense to get moving. And a very patient hubby who had to stop every so often so I could rest. It was a steep climb to the Rock! But what a game!

Do you ever look back on your life and realize the turning points? You know, the events that changed your life or let’s say, put you back on course?

One such event was when I was 19. I could have died. I was a hair away from riding on a motorcycle on a Sunday evening. Instead I took off with a co-worker because I was angry at another person. My life would have probably ended that night. I am sure some liberal is cursing God on that one. Today I am still thanking Him for putting an obstacle in my way that night that kept me from riding the bike.

I remember coming home at a very late hour after partying my heart out (yea, I wasn’t a saint at that age) to find my mama standing at the front door. I knew something was wrong. She just looked at me and told me to get in her car.

How do I say this? Hmmm. That tragic event cleaned me up. And several months later I met my future husband. Thank God. Don’t ever try to tell me that God isn’t in control! Even when WE are stupid and have turned our back, He still protects us.

And thank God for mama. Mama never said a word to me about the shape I was in that night. Not one. She could have kicked me out of the house. But she didn’t. No, mama just did the same thing she had been doing since I was born – praying a protective prayer over me. I’m sure my Mama is still an advocate for me in Heaven when I slip up. That means she’s quite busy. Because I fail every day. Do you see your mom that way? Give her a hug for me if she’s living. She deserves it.

Event #2: Becoming a wife. I could go through the changes here, but there’s not enough room. So I’ll point you to an earlier blog post “28” (click here). What a turning point marriage can be. What lesson have I learned that stands out the most?? I’m not always right. Yes, I want to be. But I’m not. It’s still hard to shut up at times though. Ha.

Event #3: Becoming a mama. Nothing is sweeter. Nothing is more daunting. Nothing can be scarier. I mean after all that’s a little YOU you’re taking care of. Better do your best. If you look at kids as a blessing and not an impediment, then taking care of them, while it isn’t a piece of cake, does bring happiness.

I simply do not understand how someone can abort a baby. Note: They are babies when they are conceived. Abortion is a “right” according to the left. No, we have a right to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Not murder. Just my humble opinion and on this subject I could care less what people think of it.

Event #4: Graduating from CCCC in 1993. I knew I had to go back to school. We were poor and living on “barely getting along” street. We had two kids. I waited tables at night while Dean worked during the day. We just swapped out at 4 pm. He came home and I headed to Red Lobster, Old Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. We did that for years. Going to college was a necessity then. What if something had happened to Dean? I couldn’t have fed my kids on a waitress’ salary. Don’t get me wrong. I made killer money for a waitress. But it wouldn’t have been that way if I had been on my own. Sure there was welfare. And welfare is there to help us through the tough times. But it’s not meant to be a career like the “occupiers” and some others believe it is.

I remember walking across that stage to get my Diploma. It was a turning point. No, I did not walk into the job of my dreams the next day. I actually went through some horrible jobs right here in Sanford until I found a decent one in RTP. I just don’t understand what these spoiled kids are thinking today.

Then Dean went to college. Wasn’t easy but we made it. And it was a turning point, as well.

Event #5: Becoming Memaw. Can we just skip the kids and go straight to the grandkids? Don’t get me wrong. I love my kids. I love them dearly. But there’s something far more special about a grandkid. I can’t pinpoint one thing. It’s everything! I might let you borrow my kids. But dang if I will let you borrow my grandkid.

Event #6: Earning my Bachelor’s degree. Always wanted it. Never thought I would do it. But I did. And I tell these young punks on facebook who complain about college to just stop. Try doing it with a fulltime job, bills, grandkids, etc. They can’t answer.

And suddenly doors are starting to open that didn’t before. It was worth every minute of it.

Event #7 (should have listed as #1): Finding God. It was me that got lost. Not Him. I fail daily and have plenty of witnesses. But it’s a habit now to go out at night and automatically look at the sky and talk to “daddy”. If we were only as patient as He is…If only.

I could go on and on. What I am trying to do is make you think of those turning points in your life? How will the next year be for me? Heck, only God knows.

The say you shouldn’t tell your birthday wish. But I am. Because many feel the same. I want a President who loves America. Not one who apologizes for her. Not one who wants to fundamentally change her. I want an electorate who actually knows who they are voting for.

I want the America I grew up in to be the America for my kids and grandson.

Bricks Through the Door

You could guarantee that a news report of a brick with a hateful message attached to it, thrown through the front entrance of an A.M.E. Zion Church, would make the national headline news. This event would most certainly receive continuous follow-up reporting, national notoriety, as well public condemnation and rightly so.

Now why is there not one bit of national notoriety when a vandal threw bricks with hateful messages attached to them through the doors of the Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights, Illinois early October 15^th? This terror act prompted a “press release” to the Chicago Independent Media Center.

“In the early morning hours of October 15^th, we put two chunks of concrete through the glass windows and doors of the Christian Liberty Academy,”

(Now we know why this hate-crime didn’t make the national news circuit, because the words: Christian, Liberty, and Academy!)

“We did this because at 6 p.m. today they will be hosting an event organized by the homophobic hate group Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, that [sic] will be presenting an award to Scott Lively.”

They continue with their threats,

“These chunks of concrete were thrown through these windows and doors for two reasons: to show that there is a consequence for hatred and homophobia in our community and to directly cause this event to be shut down. We can anticipate the same kind of attack directed against churches and groups that actively encourage their members to vote in support of the North Carolina Constitutional Amendment, codifying marriage as between a Man and a Woman. Remember the progressive secularist’s desire is to embrace all of diversity’s perversities and they believe that the end justifies the violent means.

My commentary on the current media’s bias does not stop with the recent attack by homo-fascists against Christians. Ad Busters minions at the various demonstration sites constantly spew hateful violence laced rhetoric. Now our “Dear Leader” President Barack Hussein Obama and his democrat cohorts are embracing and supporting the Wall Street Occupiers.

So there you have it. President Barak Hussein Obama supports the anti-Semitic and anti-capitalist protestors around the United States. What would one expect from a former “community organizer?”

The Occupy Wall Street crowds include support from the Democrat Party, a variety of national worker’s collectives (labor unions), the Communist Party USA, the Revolutionary Communist Party, the Neo-Nazi Party, Anarchists, Enviro-fascists, and the Council of American Islamic Relations (a group with connections to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas who are also rabidly anti-Semitic and hateful of Israel). Recently we learned that the Occupy mobs consist of deviant public defecators, drug abusers, thieves, rapists, and perverts. How many hundreds have been arrested?

Now recall the media’s coverage of the Tea Party movement. Yeah, the media ignored the Tea Party, because it was grassroots, real, honest to goodness, law-abiding, tax paying, hard working Americans who by in large remained quiet and in the shadows. Ultimately Big Government woke-up a sleeping giant, with the onset of Obama Care, a major piece of legislation passed by using unsavory un-Constitutional means, that will give government total control over the most private and intimate aspects of each and everyone of our lives, our health care. Once these people stood up and let their voices be heard, the push back by our Dear Leader and his myrmidons was relentless.

Compared to the national information bureaus (our mass media) reporting on both the Occupiers and the Tea Party, so far the “lame-stream media” is reporting twice as many stories about the Occupiers than they did the Tea Party. So much so that even the Weather Channel is reporting on the Wall Street mobs and the pending winter weather effecting their movement.

At the same time, the national information bureaus fail to report on the dark under lying side of the Occupiers, their supporters and financial underwriters. All the stories are favorable or sympathizing with the mobs. Simply read the Associated Press reports in the Sanford Herald. This mischaracterization by our national media of a vile, vicious Marxist movement, threatens our very institutions and property rights!

When will our local Progressive Democrat officials Chairman Ty Stumpf, Lt. Governor Dennis Wicker, Commissioner Hayes, Commissioner Reives, Commissioner Paschal, Irene Smith, Neil Rotter, and Randall Lee Yow denounce the anti-semitic, violence laced rhetoric of the Wall Street Occupiers? There's a new Civitas Poll out. And the catchphrase "HermanCain" is in this statement, "this seems to be one HermanCain that Carolinians would not mind blowing into the state..."

And it basically says (in my words):

A "Cain" Would "Thrash" the "Predator" out of the White House.

Yes I know it's early. And let's face it, Mr. Ed, the horse, would get my vote before Barack Obama would or for that matter, any Democrat would.

Raleigh, N.C. – A new poll by the Civitas Institute shows Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain leading Democratic incumbent Barack Obama by five percent among North Carolina voters.

Cain is the choice of 46 percent of North Carolina voters if the election for President of the United States was today and the candidates were Herman Cain the Republican, and Barack Obama the Democrat. Forty-one percent said they would vote for Obama, and 10 percent said they are undecided.

Cain has the support of 81 percent of Republicans along with 50 percent of unaffiliated voters. Democratic voters would vote for Obama by a 68 percent to 19 percent margin.

“Just as is happening nationally, we are seeing a swell of support for Herman Cain in North Carolina,” said Civitas Institute President Francis De Luca.

Voters age 18-25 (52 percent) and 56-65 (50 percent) would vote for Obama if the election was today. Forty-four percent of those age 26-40 and 55 percent of voters age 41-55 would vote for Cain. In the key 66+ demographic, the margin narrows to 45 percent Cain – 42 percent Obama. Regionally, Cain garners the most support in Charlotte and the Piedmont Triad, while voters in the Triangle and Northeast are most likely to vote for Obama.

“To borrow a pun that is going around, this seems to be one HermanCain that Carolinians would not mind blowing into the state,” added De Luca.

Advice to the Occupiers

Being a useful idiot myself when I was younger, I initially understood the anger of the Occupy Wall Street crowd, and their desire to bring about change, even if I didn’t agree with who they were directing their anger toward. The more I heard these occupiers speak, though, the less understanding I became. Most aren’t so much looking to bring about purposeful change as they just want what they want, when they want it.

I found myself thinking about what my late father would say to these occupiers. My dad lived through both world wars and the Depression. His only recollections of World War 1, though, consisted of wondering why his lazy drunkard uncles weren’t fighting in the war, and an image of his deceased mother who had died during the Spanish Flu pandemic. His grandparents raised him after his mother passed. For whatever reason, his father never sent for him after he remarried. Dad quit school after the 7^th grade to go to work driving a truck because he and his grandparents were starving to death. Dad also went to the CCC camps twice to provide food and home for himself and his grandparents. When he couldn’t go back to the CCC camps any longer, he did whatever job he could find. He was drafted and fought in Europe and participated in D-Day. He was in Europe when his beloved grandmother passed. Upon returning to the states, he still took care of his grandfather, until the old man passed two years after the war ended.

Dad got a job in the federal government, married, joined a Masonic organization, became a church member, lost a son and had two daughters, took in his in-laws, cared for my partially bed-ridden mother and walked his girls down the aisle. He volunteered at church and through the Masons, and he was always available to help out a friend or stranger in need. He was a reliable judge of character and called things as he saw them. Dad worked part-time after retirement, spoiled his granddaughters, was stricken with dementia, and in one of the last lucid moments of his life, he held my mother’s hand as she passed. Fortunately for him, he never remembered her passing. We regularly told him she was getting her hair done or she had gone shopping, and he accepted those explanations for her absence. He himself passed peacefully two years after my mom.

So, what would my wise and seasoned dad say to the occupiers if he was here? First, he would shake his head in frustration. Then, he would tell them the following:

1. Quit your belly-aching and go get a job. Don’t be crying about how you can’t get a job in the field you studied in college. Take whatever job you can, and move if you have to. And don’t be so full of yourself that you believe you are above some jobs.

2. You don’t know what ‘doing without’ means.

3. I didn’t tell you to borrow all that money for college. That was your idea and yes, you still have to repay the loans. Welcome to the school of hard knocks.

4. Instead of only thinking about yourself, why don’t you go do something for someone else? There is always someone worse off than you who can use your help.

5. You want things to be fair? There is no ‘fair’ in this world. What there is is making the best you can with the hand you’re dealt. You pay your money and you take your chances.

6. More government is not the solution you want. Look to yourself for solutions.

It might sound harsh, and I rolled my eyes aplenty when I heard these sentiments coming from his mouth again and again. As a teen and young adult, I thought he was out of touch, and that things were different than when he was a boy. My dad was right all along, though. Some truths from the 1930’s were still true in the 1970’s and 80’s and are still true today. I pray the occupiers will open their minds enough to listen.

Harry Reid: ‘Private Sector Jobs are Doing Just Fine; It’s the Public Sector Jobs Where We’ve Lost Huge Numbers’

Here’s Sen. Reid’s (D-NV) statement from the Senate floor today:

“The massive layoffs we’ve had in America today-of course they’re rooted in the last administration-and it’s very clear that private sector jobs are doing just fine. It’s the public sector jobs where we’ve lost huge numbers, and that’s what this legislation’s all about. And it’s unfortunate my friend the Republican Leader is complaining about that. I would also note that my friend said the House passed another bill. Well, they pass lots of bills, but they rarely go anyplace.”

Here’s a fact that Reid should look over before he opens his mouth again. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, government workers have the lowest unemployment rate of any industry or class recorded, at 4.7%, while the national unemployment rate is 9.1% – nearly twice that of public sector workers.

The U.S. capital has swapped top spots with Silicon Valley, according to recent Census Bureau figures, with the typical household in the Washington metro area earning $84,523 last year. The national median income for 2010 was $50,046.

The figures demonstrate how the nation’s political and financial classes are prospering as the economy struggles with unemployment above 9 percent and thousands of Americans protest in the streets against income disparity, said Kevin Zeese, director of Prosperity Agenda, a Baltimore-based advocacy group trying to narrow the divide between rich and poor.

Editor's Note: From time to time we will promote candidates that we see as fit to be our representatives. Do not forget though...those who are voted locally alot of the time end up in Washington. Know who you are voting for, regardless of who promotes them.

That being said, I have offered a candidate for Sanford's City Council a forum to introduce himself to you. Please keep all elections in your prayers. Praying is the first thing we should do. God tells us if we will humble ourselves before Him, He will heal our land. Folks, our land needs healing!

My name is Ed Page and I am running for Sanford City Council. I am a family man. I am an attorney and former Assistant District Attorney for Lee County. I am a small businessman. I am a Christian. I am a conservative. I am asking for your vote. Let me tell you where I stand.

I believe in free markets. I believe that free markets and private charities are the efficient engines that drive the success of our city, state and country, and that most efficiently allocate our resources to their best and most productive ends. I believe that governments, even when well-intentioned, are less efficient and productive allocators of those resources. That is, the collective wisdom of all the actors in our economy (manufacturers, retailers, consumers, donors, charities, etc.) is greater than the wisdom of government employees beholden to other, more political, motivations.

I believe in small business and private charity. Governments tend to breed waste and bureaucracies, whereas private business and charity tend to find greater efficiencies and better allocation of resources. All too often, we see even large business in league with big government through the misuse of eminent domain, targeted “incentives”, bailouts and special tax breaks that small and medium home-grown businesses do not enjoy and that corrupt and twist our free market economy. A free market with healthy civic organizations and private charities most efficiently meets the needs of our community in without misusing or misallocating economic resources through corporate welfare, bloated bureaucracy, waste, fraud or abuse.

I believe in limited government and lower taxes. Because government is generally less efficient, less productive, and more subject to political motivations when allocating our collective resources than we as a free people are ourselves, I believe that government should stick to its core functions, do them well and cost-effectively, and take as little out of the economy in taxes as possible. City government should also seek to unshackle us from burdensome regulation of businesses and homeowners, keeping only those regulations that are likely to encourage community and economic growth, and eliminate those which discourage improvements or unnecessarily hinder businesses’ marketing efforts.

I believe that our City Council should:

Lower taxes;
Reform burdensome regulations;
Focus our taxpayers’ resources on what city government should do, and do them well and cost-effectively. Those things are: Police, Fire, Water & Sewer, Streets & Infrastructure.
Get out of the way and let the power of private individuals, businesses and charities go to work.

I believe I have the expertise to make a difference. I hear from my fellow citizens that Sanford’s two biggest problems are crime and jobs. I work every day in the criminal justice system and I have seen it from both sides of the courtroom. I know how we can take a bite out of crime. I have a degree from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, but more importantly, I am a small businessman. I know the daily struggles of being in business and I know that we can foster an environment that will encourage business growth and allow the creativity of the free market to flourish in Sanford.

The citizens of Sanford have a choice to make. My opponent has been on the City Council for over thirty years. I have no reason to think that he is not a good, nice person. But I also cannot find a single thing of significance that he has championed in over three decades. He goes with the liberal establishment. If he is re-elected, he will oppose any type of change. Moreover, he is likely to support efforts to revisit things like the business privilege tax, which he voted for.

I need your help. If you live in Ward 4, I need your vote. Whether you live in Ward 4 or not, I need you to tell your friends who do to vote for me. I need your contributions. I need your letters to the editor. I need you to let me know that we can put a sign in your yard. I need your prayers. Thank you for your consideration and support.

Local Elections Matter!

Editor: We've said a bunch of times here at the Brew that you must pay attention to local races. Just because a candidate is your neighbor, goes to your church or works with you, it doesn't mean they will govern according to the Constitution. You need to find out who you are voting for. Because they start on the local level and then go to Washington where the real trouble begins.

I really challenge you to take a hard close look at who is running in municipal elections just as much as Presidential. You can make a difference in your town.

That being said, today's blog post is by someone who cares deeply for her country and speaks up at board meetings, etc. Her voice is very soothing to hear and people listen.

Sewer Issues Demonstrate Importance of City Council Elections

Who wins the Sanford city council election matters. Things are happening below the radar that we citizens of every political persuasion should not be permitting.

Sewage treatment issues to illustrate this. Sanford’s “wastewater treatment” plant is currently running at 66% capacity. Last May construction began to double its capacity. Sewer users fees have increased 32% in the last four years—mostly to pad Sanford’s revenue and show investors that Sanford’s sewer customers—us—can payback the $53 million construction loan.

Now Sanford is talking with Pittsboro and Goldston about selling them drinking water and sewage treatment at wholesale prices—that’s cheaper than we citizens can buy it. The Sanford Herald quoted our mayor saying that Sanford can provide Pittsboro and Goldston cheaper infrastructure than they can build and operate themselves.

Why are we doubling our sewage treatment capacity? Chatham County does not need an infrastructure bailout. They are wealthy; Lee County is poor. Chatham County has 7.6% unemployment, compared to our crippling 12.9%. Pittsboro’s average single family house sells at $100,000 higher than here; their real estate taxes are 37 cents cheaper than ours /$100 evaluation. My point: Chatham County is wealthy, Lee County is poor! Who represents us on Sanford City Council matters!

There is a second stench in this sewer deal. Lee County businessman Mr. Goodnight owns 8,000+ acres between Pittsboro and Jordan Lake, which he plans to develop into a live, work and play community that is projected to grow as populous as Sanford. If Pittsboro buys sewage treatment from Sanford, Mr. Goodnight could easily attach his sewer pipe to Sanford’s treatment plant at Pittsboro and pay wholesale prices—while avoiding expanded infrastructure costs. Our current sewage treatment plant enlargement could handle Mr. Goodnight’s development. If this happens, then we Sanford taxpayers are enabling another county to prosper with no benefit to us. Who represents us on Sanford City Council matters!

There is a third vile reek in Sanford’s wastewater treatment deal. Anyone who applies to Sanford for a sewer connection is agreeing to “voluntary annexation” by the city. My request to see the fine print on the application was denied, though I was told by city personnel, if I purchased a sewer connection, “annexation was a possibility.”

In fact, annexation of all Lee County sewer customers appears to be an unwritten city policy. The county built a lift station near Colon Road and US-1, in preparation for residential and industrial development outside the city. But because of the city’s coerced “voluntary” annexation, this land—and the land near the jetport—is not being developed.

The state legislature recently passed a law to stop “involuntary annexation.” Thank you, Rep. Mike Stone, for your hard work! We realize some problems cannot be solved on the local level. Regretfully, the issue of sewer service applicants being forced to agree to “voluntary annexation” by Sanford in exchange for receiving sewer service will apparently need to be settled in the courts. I repeat: it matters who represents us on Sanford City Council!

A final word of caution! Even if Republicans win all three seats in the upcoming Sanford City Council election, we will not have a majority. We must collaborate to win on a variety of issues. These issues are ethical and sometimes ideological; they are not against people. Please do not burn our bridges with inflammatory rhetoric: winsomely present your views with facts, with logic, and with a viable long term vision that partners Sanford with Lee County for the betterment of all residents.

Who represents us on Sanford City Council matters! Please go out and vote Republican—and please motivate others to vote Republican!

Flashback: The 40/40 Pledge

My heart is so saddened but yet confused on how we let our country get to where it is. We need to feel pity for those rioting against capitalism. But I feel anger. I want to revolt and have my own "occupy...." (you can see that if you read my recent posts.)

But that's not going to solve our problems. Can't beat violence with violence.

Reprinting the 40/40 pledge. Anyone seeing the occupiers and their misguided anger over the past few days and weeks could become discouraged and wonder if our country can be saved.

I'm here to say, after reading this again, "Yes it can."

But it's going to take finding what your knees are for.

The Five Principles of Nonviolence

2 Nonviolent resistance does not seek to defeat or humiliate the opponent, but to win his friendship and understanding. The nonviolent resister must often express his protest through noncooperation but he realizes that noncooperation is not the ends itself; it is merely means to awaken a sense of moral shame in the opponent.

3. The attack is directed against forces of evil rather than against persons who are caught in those forces. It is a struggle between justice and injustice, between the forces of light and the forces of darkness.

As an American, the American flag is a symbol of the blood, sweat and tears sacrificed for me and you to have freedom.

Just today, Dardens Restaurants, parent company of Olive Garden and Red Lobster announced they supported an Alabama Olive Garden refusing to let the American Flag be used by a Kiwanis group!

The restaurant said it would be a distraction!

Editor's Update 10/12/2011: Here at the "Brew", if we feel as if we made an error in judgment, we admit it. Mr. Yow says he never received the copy promised and that is why he wrote his letter. It was assumed he would contact Mr. Womack to get the copy.

Therefore, an email has been sent requesting the Evergreen proposal be sent to Mr. Yow and to me so it can be placed here for all to read.

In a letter to the editor in the Sanford Herald's Wednesday edition, Randall Yow claims he cannot get a copy of the Evergreen proposal.

That is incorrect. Commissioner Womack offered a copy to Randall right here on this blog!

Mr. Yow must think this blog isn't popular! Maybe we're not the DrudgeReport but we're not doing too bad at all! Especially for this little old girl from Sanford, NC.

Just a note: at least 60% of the hits are from Sanford Herald readers.

I hope our state legislature goes through with this. It is way past time for a review. Incentives are pitting counties against counties. And here in Lee county they are pitting the city against the county. It's stupid!!

When should government pick winners and losers? Never. But they do it all day long.

They do it when they use incentives. Heck, just like a local candidate for City Council said last night, government even picks winners and losers when they try to decide which non-profits to fund.

And there is no accountability whatsoever from the Lee County's Economic Development Corporation. None.

We have let things get so out of hand.

In this article you'll find something that hasn't been broadcasted by our MSM, like WRAL or The Sanford Herald. Continental Tire wanted $45 million up front. Yes, up front before any job was created.

Would our Governor excuse Continental from their obligations like she did Apex Distributors (owns Lowes Foods) in Hickory? You know, just write off the $45 million dollars if they couldn't get things going?

I bet so since the land they were supposedly going to buy was owned by a Democratic Senator and supporters.

I truly believe it now. I believe Democrats really think money grows on trees. In your backyard, if you know what I mean.

Remember Rahm Emmanuel's now famous line: "Never let a good crisis go to waste". Never.

Shame on the Republicans.

Really shame on the Democrats - acting like a bunch of toddlers. I am referring to the EDC, BOE, and leftist leaning members, like Doc Oldham on the BOC.

We should have our own reality show called "Will the Real Men of Lee County stand up?"

Republicans have failed in so many ways by thinking we could be nice to the liberals. Let's all just get along. That's bull crap. It's a lie we've been fed from day 1. Democrats are not in the business of getting along. They want to tax us to death. They want to throw gays down our throat.

Added after original posting: Legislative manuevers are not the way to make us embrace a lifestyle that is against our moral beliefs. What people do with themselves, is their business. Just don't try to make it mine.

They want to disband marriages. They want to tell us God is dead. They want us totally dependent on Government. And more.

You cannot believe them in anymore. You've heard the phrase "You cannot deal with the devil." You can't deal with the enemies. Even though Johnny won the fiddle contest in "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", I think the devil won!

And just go watch a movie like "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" or "The Omen".

Steve Jobs and Walter Williams: College Really Can Be Unneeded

First, as you probably already know, Steve Jobs of Apple, passed away yesterday. I would never be able to memorialize him adequately, but I will say that without him and people like him, the world would be…well, most of you know what the world would be like since you were alive before Apple and Microsoft came to be! RIP Steve Jobs, your life’s work goes on and on.

Second, here is my blog.

Walter Williams column of a few weeks ago, “College Can Be Unneeded”, was about how college may not be the best choice for some high school graduates, and how too many unprepared students in colleges are contributing to our national lack of proficiency in math and reading. I agree with him that many are going to college for the wrong reasons, and that many have career goals that don’t require an undergraduate or graduate degree. As I was taking a break from the rough draft of this blog, I read on facebook that Steve Jobs passed. At that moment, my blog changed direction.

Remembering that Steve Jobs did not finish college, I wondered how many other successful people did not finish college, or didn’t even attend. Here are a few:
