Popular painter Thomas Kinkade dies in California
SAN FRANCISCO — Artist Thomas Kinkade once said that he had something in common with Walt Disney and Norman Rockwell: He wanted to make people happy.
And he won success with brushwork paintings that focused on idyllic landscapes, cottages and churches — highly popular works that became big sellers for dealers across the United States.
The self-described "Painter of Light," who died Friday at age 54, produced sentimental scenes of country gardens and pastoral landscapes in dewy morning light that were beloved by many but criticized by the art establishment.

You decide ...
So they tell us we're on the rebound:
US Adds 120,000 Jobs; Unemployment Falls to 8.2%
Tell these people we are rebounding...
88 Million Not in Labor Force
Now here's the fine line in the first report:
".... The drop in the unemployment rate, to the lowest level since January 2009, reflected a drop in the labor force. The separate household survey, from which the jobless rate is derieved also showed a drop in employment...." http://www.cnbc.com/id/46975031

Update: BOE Chair..and DPI
In previous posts we've wondered about the after school program that Rev Williams was in charge of at Fair Promise. What would happen to it now that he's left? They are getting YOUR tax dollars to run the program.
No matter what is said and done, the Lee County Board of Education Chair is getting funds from Department of Public Instruction to fund his programs. That simply appears to be a conflict of interest.
Found this on another website and I guess it answers the question:

School Board Chair leaves church conference
3 April 2012
SANFORD–School Board Chairman Shawn Williams, who was also Pastor of Fair Promise AME Zion Church, one of the oldest AME Zion churches in Lee County, has left the Conference after being reassigned by the Bishop a week ago. Williams made it through Conference re-assignments in November but was reassigned to a smaller church in Harnett County last week. Williams told WWGP news Monday that after prayerfully considering the matter, he decided not to accept the new assignment and to start his own church. He said he preached his final sermon at Fair Promise last week, and Sunday, preached at a facility in Broadway. He said he is looking for space large enough to accommodate his afterschool program.
Got PEPSI?
Editor Update: Well Friends, Mr/Ms Anonymous got me on this one. They dutifully noted Pepsi did the same (2010).
This editor should have checked before the knee jerk reaction. Wouldn't it be nice if Mr/Ms Anonymous would be so kind to reveal who they are instead of hiding behind "anonymous"? Then all the libs in town could go pat him/her on the back! Anyway, I will respectfully say Thank you to him/her for bringing this out!
If not, throw out Coke and get some!
Coca-Cola Caves to Left Wing Bullying, Drops from Conservative Group
In an attack on voter ID laws around the nation, Democratic officials called for a boycott of Coca-Cola, Walmart, and other organizations that supported the American Legislative Exchange Council. Within five hours of the boycott threat, Coke had backed down, removing its funding from ALEC. They said:
“We are organizing. We are not agonizing,” said Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC). Meanwhile, Color of Change joined the boycott effort, too.
This sort of coordination can come only from the top. And it is certainly interesting that the Democrats and their allies are using precisely the same sort of tactics – secondary boycotts – that they used with regard to Rush Limbaugh. This is their new overall strategy: target private businesses that support their opponents, and drive them into the ground with the tacit and not-so-tacit backing of government figures. Such coordination is an assault on the First Amendment of tremendous proportions.

The Coca-Cola Company has elected to discontinue its membership with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Our involvement with ALEC was focused on efforts to oppose discriminatory food and beverage taxes, not on issues that have no direct bearing on our business. We have a long-standing policy of only taking positions on issues that impact our Company and industry.

Is this really our President?
Here is the President of the United States spreading fear and angst, just like our Sanford City Council is doing. And just like the Lee County BOE did last year.Only it really sounds stupid coming from the leader of America.

Obama on the Paul Ryan budget: "We wouldn't have the capacity to enforce the laws that protect the air we breathe, the water we drink, or the food that we eat. Cuts to the FAA would likely result in more flight cancellations, delays and the complete elimination of air traffic control services in parts of the country. Over time, our weather forecasts would become less accurate because we wouldn't be able to afford to launch new satellites and that means governors and mayors would have to wait longer to order evacuations in the event of a hurricane. That's just a partial sampling of the consequences of this budget."

Appeals Court Fires Back at Obama's Comments on Health Care Case
Appeals Court Fires Back at Obama's Comments on Health Care Case
(CBS News) In the escalating battle between the administration and the judiciary, a federal appeals court apparently is calling the president's bluff -- ordering the Justice Department to answer by Thursday whether the Obama Administration believes that the courts have the right to strike down a federal law, according to a lawyer who was in the courtroom.
The order, by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, appears to be in direct response to the president's comments yesterday about the Supreme Court's review of the health care law. Mr. Obama all but threw down the gauntlet with the justices, saying he was "confident" the Court would not "take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress."
Overturning a law of course would not be unprecedented -- since the Supreme Court since 1803 has asserted the power to strike down laws it interprets as unconstitutional. The three-judge appellate court appears to be asking the administration to admit that basic premise -- despite the president's remarks that implied the contrary. The panel ordered the Justice Department to submit a three-page, single-spaced letter by noon Thursday addressing whether the Executive Branch believes courts have such power, the lawyer said.
The panel is hearing a separate challenge to the health care law by physician-owned hospitals. The issue arose when a lawyer for the Justice Department began arguing before the judges. Appeals Court Judge Jerry Smith immediately interrupted, asking if DOJ agreed that the judiciary could strike down an unconstitutional law.

Arrogance at Its Best!
President Barack Hussein Obama slams the judicial system his party abuses if they can't get something through legislatively. Who does he think he is? God? Oh that's right. He does! So he bullies the Supreme Court, tells Russia "it's ok. Just wait till the election is over...", politicizes a murder, encites the people, then shuts up instead of calming citizens down....What else will we hear OR NOT HEAR from the elitist?
Obama: Court Striking Down Obamacare Would Be Judicial Activism
President Obama preemptively slammed the Supreme Court as a bunch of "unelected group of people" who will have turned to "judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint" if they decide to strike down his signature legislative achievement, the healthcare reform act.
Obama was speaking at a trilateral event with the Prime Minister of Canada and President of Mexico.
Obama touted the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as "a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically-elected Congress."
"I am confident the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically-elected congress," President Obama said at a White House event in the Rose Garden today.
"I just remind conservative commentators that for years we have heard the biggest problem on the bench was judicial activism or a lack of judicial restraint. That an unelected group of people would somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law. ..."
