A Sliver Lining of Obamacare?

From the linked article below:
Dozens of lawmakers and aides are so afraid that their health insurance premiums will skyrocket next year thanks to Obamacare that they are thinking about retiring early or just quitting.
The fear: Government-subsidized premiums will disappear at the end of the year under a provision in the health care law that nudges aides and lawmakers onto the government health care exchanges, which could make their benefits exorbitantly expensive.

If the issue isn’t resolved, and massive numbers of lawmakers and aides bolt, many on Capitol Hill fear it could lead to a brain drain just as Congress tackles a slew of weighty issues — like fights over the Tax Code and immigration reform.

I am seeing this as one of the few silver linings of Obamacare.  An exodus of veteran lawmakers and staff might be a good thing.  Some unintended Congressional housecleaning might be just what this country needs.

The Story of the American Flag

On Friday, 14 June, America will celebrate the American Flag.  Do you know the US Code for our precious symbol?  You can find it here:  http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html.  You will be surprised at some of the things noted.

But revisit history by following the link below.  Find out the story behind this national treasure:

From the Federalist Papers (www.federalistpapers.org) :

Two Reasons to Fly Your Flag Today

Growing up, June 14th was recognized as something personal in my family...my parents' wedding anniversary.  The story goes that my parents were sitting in the cafeteria at the State Department where they both worked when a co-worker, in jest, asked them when they were getting married.  My parents had only been dating for about 4 months and hadn't spoken of marriage at all, so my mom was highly embarrassed by the question.  My dad, though, looked the guy straight in the eye and said, "June 14th."  Sure enough, they were married on June 14th that year.

My parents' anniversary being on June 14th is only meaningful to a handful of people.  But two other anniversaries on June 14th are important to every American:  Flag Day and the U.S. Army Birthday.

The Flag Act was passed on June 14, 1777.   Read more about it here:

And the U.S. Army is 238 years old today.  Read more about it here:

One more thing...don't forget to fly your flag!

City Council: Ramming it Down our Throats!

Over the past few years I have noticed the Sanford City Council absolutely doesn't care if you or me feed our family.  They don't care if there is a recession. They don't care if we have empty buildings downtown.  They don't care if a business is suffering.

Argue with me all you want but I live in Realville.  Six council members, the city manager, and our darling Mayor who nominated herself for an award,  live in  Fantasyland.  Or should I say  "Far Far Away" from reality.

They give The Temple Theatre money.  They insist on running a losing business - Sanford Golf course (check the budget for how much they throw at it).  They even want to build a new clubhouse at the Sanford Golf Course because more people might play golf!  Good grief.  They want to expand the greenway.  They want to tax, tax, tax.

What's Next: Barbie and Ken?

Seriously, folks.  How far will these feel-good liberals go?  Before you know it, school principals will want kids to turn in
"Big Wheels".  Lord how mercy, we can't have any of the kids wanting a souped up play car to ride in the cul-de-sac when they get home from school!  Their little toes might get squashed!  Or somebody else might be offended!

And let's not let them have "Barbie and Ken".  No the nanny state will insist on "Ken and GI Joe".  All in the name of diversity, you know! Geez.  Oh wait...GI Joe will meet his fate because we know the nanny liberals don't like the military!  Ughhhh!

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BEGINNING TOY GUN TURN-IN PROGRAM

Strobridge Elementary Principal Charles Hill has a brilliant idea: he’s holding a toy gun exchange next Saturday in which students of the Hayward, CA school can turn in a toy gun to receive a book and a raffle ticket to win one of four bicycles.

Really.
Hill believes that children who play with toy guns may not think real guns are dangerous. “Playing with toy guns, saying ‘I’m going to shoot you,’ desensitizes them, so as they get older, it’s easier for them to use a real gun,” he claims.
Hill was inspired by a school photographer, Horace Gibson, who was upset about the number of police shootings of young people in Oakland.

Now State Dept Cover Ups

CBS News reports that is has unearthed documents from the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), an internal watchdog agency, that implicate the State Department in a series of misconducts worldwide.
The memo, reported by CBS News’ John Miller, cited eight specific examples, including allegations that a State Department security official in Beirut “engaged in sexual assaults” with foreign nationals hired as embassy guards and the charge and that members of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s security detail “engaged prostitutes while on official trips in foreign countries” — a problem the report says was “endemic.”

Common Core Needs To Go

I am glad my children are not in public school.  If they were, I'd be putting them in private school or homeschooling them.  Elementary school-aged kids need to be learning the basics of  reading, writing and math.  They do not need to be indoctrinated in how to ways to use language in manipulative ways.  They are young and impressionable and should be protected from this kind of training.  Think I'm blowing this out of proportion? Take a look at this video and then decide for yourself.

Is turn-key tyranny our future?

I just watched the video I have link to below.  It's Edward Snowden, the NSA surveillance whistleblower.  Two parts were especially chilling.  The first occurs between minutes 7 and 8, where he talks about how the information being gathered now can be used in the future.  The second is at the end where he talks about turn-key tyranny.  The video is about 12 minutes long, but worth every minute.  Please watch it.

More Redefining Going On

There is a push for atheist chaplains in the military.  An atheist is a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings.  A chaplain is an ecclesiastic attached to the chapel of a royal court, college, etc., or to a military unit.  An ecclesiastic is a member of the clergy or other person in religious orders.   Keeping all that in mind, there is no such thing as an atheist chaplain.

If atheists want advisers or spiritual leaders, that's fine!  But those advisers and leaders are not chaplains.  They need to pick another name instead of redefining chaplain.  The thesaurus has many other words that could be used for the advisers atheists are wanting; advisers is one of them.  So is guide, counselor, guru, mentor, aide, coach and consultant.

Instead of rewriting the dictionary, people need to simply pick a word that already fits.
