Food Network was wrong

Some celebrities do rude things...thoughtless things...and downright stupid things.  And they apologize...some sincerely (like David Letterman) and some not so sincerely (like Charlie Sheen).

Paula Deen used inappropriate language.  Anyone her age, or mine, who grew up in the South (or a lot of other places in the U.S.) heard that word being used by the adults around them.  It was common talk, as were many other racial slurs.  Most of us, though, have matured beyond that and removed those words from our vocabulary along with expletives we commonly used before we had parroting toddlers in our homes.

People slip, though.  I did just about a week ago.  After heavy rains, my daughter went downstairs to check the sump pump.  What she found was a rather large snake meandering around in the basement looking for a way out.  We sat on the basement steps for a time while I used my cell phone to capture the snake's activity in hopes of gauging its size.  As we sat there, our cat decided he was interested in what we were doing.  When I realized the cat was on the steps, I muttered an expletive...one I removed from my vocabulary many moons ago.  I slipped.  I apologized to my daughter and we proceeded on with me filming the snake and her relocating the cat.  Case closed.

Paula Deen has admitted it, explained it and apologized for it.  Food Network should have accepted her apology and let it go.  Instead their PC police decided it was best to let her go.  I wonder if Food Network will be sorry they did when they are flooded with emails and lose viewers over this.

The Inmates are Running the Asylum!

How much you want to bet this "targeting" won't touch a left leaning nonprofit?  Just how much?  Bet me!

DEMOCRAT REP. SUING IRS TO GO AFTER NONPROFITS

Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) is joining with two campaign finance watchdog groups, Campaign Legal Center and Democracy 21, to sue the IRS for its regulations that give "wiggle room" to nonprofit groups allowing them to engage in political actions. The regulations state that nonprofit groups can act politically if they are "primarily" devoted for social welfare.

Van Hollen said, "The statute is very clear. It says that a 501(c)(4) organization is reserved for entities that are engaged 'exclusively' in social welfare activities, and it's not clear to me what part of 'exclusive' the writers of the regulation didn't get when it came to this particular provision of the law."
The IRS regulation, written in 1959, was not a subject for dispute until the Supreme Court ruled in the Citizens United case that nonprofit under section 501(c)(4) and 501(c)(6) of the tax code could obtain corporate and union money and spend it on elections without disclosing donors.

Seriously, Brother Barber!

Hypocrisy, hypocrisy.  Brother Barber says the NC GOP is hurting people.

Trust me, he's no relation to this girl.

But exactly how, Willie, are the Republicans on Jones Street hurting you?   You look like you're eating well.  Sleeping well.  Got lots of time on your hands to do nothing but incite your anger. I bet you don't offer your home to the homeless in downtown Raleigh.  Did you feed someone looking for food yesterday while you were protesting?  Doubt it.

So, are the "R" legislators bothering you by  letting the citizens keep more of their money instead of giving it to people who keep you at the reins of the NAACP?  We are trying to feed our families and take care of our lives.  We don't want government in our lives like they are now.  We succeed when government doesn't.

Sanford Residents: You got Taxed!

Oh one of my favorite movies is "You've Got Mail".  I cry every time I hear "Brinkley!" and see Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) walk around the corner after him.  And Shop Girl (Meg Ryan) is simply stunned.  Oh, how wonderful love can be.

There was no love for the citizens at Tuesday night's City Council meeting.  They voted to give city residents a tax increase.  Who cares if you can feed your family.  Property taxes were raised from 51 cents/$100 value to 54 cents/$100 value.  So if you own a home worth $100,000 in this economy, you now will pay $30.00 more a year.

Shoot...they even increased your trash collection fees!  You will now be paying $25 more for someone to give you nice pretty bins and haul off your trash.  You nasty citizens!

Where are you going to get that from if you're unemployed or under-employed?  Shoot how about all of you who have given up looking for jobs? $55.00 might not seem like much to you..but it is to someone barely making it.  Let's face it...government will get what they want from you.  You have no say.

So I hope you enjoy walking on the greenway.  And eating less.

I don't think common sense prevails anymore in Sanford.  Higher property taxes equals higher rent.  It equals higher prices for goods at the stores.  And more than likely will mean less interest in our city by businesses.

But what the heck!  According to ex-commissioner Richard Hayes tonight,  the only reason people come to our town is because of Depot Park.  And gosh darn-it, it needs more money!

Hmmm...I guess we should look on the bright side.  They wanted a 7 cents increase.  They got a 3 cent one.  Is that what you call a victory?

City Council: The Spat

UPDATED:  Word on the street is Sam's a bit upset.  He's been rumored to have been  flirting with disaster by talking about our esteemed mayor, Cornelia Olive, behind her back.  And the "First Lady" of Sanford doesn't like it.

Apparently after I left the City Council meeting Tuesday night, sparks flew when the meeting was finished. And it was witnessed by many, according to my source. Wish I had stuck around to see the boxing match.  I hear some harsh words escaped both of them. So maybe I am glad I didn't see them in that way.

But I must ask:  Does Sam dislike women?  He won't respond to my questions.  Banned my email address.  And he's suppose to be my Ward representative!  Now fusses with the First Lady of Sanford! In public!  Shameful!

So have the battle lines been drawn?   Cornelia vs Sam?

(Note pictures are from City of Sanford website)

Or will Sam fall to pieces in his bid to become mayor?

Let's see what Ms. Patsy Cline has to say about this:

Sanford City Council: Change of Heart??

Or is it just fear of not being re-elected?

Probably the latter.  Seems good old Sam Gaskins and Rolly Poly Cohen are backing off the $14 million dollar bond referendum on November's ballot.  But, Sheila!  Just a few weeks ago they were all eager to put it forth.  What happened?

Well, what happened might be the realization that the citizens of Sanford are hurting.  The economy is not rebounding at great leaps like liberals say it is.  Stats matter.  A couple of weeks ago, Will Doran reported in the Sanford Herald that Lee County's unemployment was hanging around 10.6%.

Now do any of you with a right mind think all that are unemployed live outside the city limits?  That number doesn't even begin to be accurate.  How about the "under - employed"?  Or the ones who have just quit looking?  They are not in the 10.6% figure.

So maybe some common sense is prevailing with the City Council.

Oops.  Not a chance.  They still will pass a budget that increases our taxes by 4-5%.  They are still the good hearted liberals who never met a tax increase they didn't like. Their cotton picking hearts just can't stop spending!!  They still remind me of good old Doc Oldham.

All except Mr. Charles Taylor...He's the only one on that council that has a brain.

And he uses it.

'This is America, not a communist state"

"The Marketing Order Regulating Raisins has become a tool for grower bankruptcy, poverty and involuntary servitude... We will not relinquish ownership of our crop. We put forth the money and effort to grow it, not the Raisin Administrative Committee. This is America, not a communist state," so say raisin growers Marvin and Laura Horne in  a 2002 letter to the secretary of agriculture and the Raisin Administrative Committee.

The Hornes are speaking about the Agricultural Marketing Agreement Program and the California Raisin Marketing Order, which the Hornes deem to be unconstitutional.

According to the article below...The programs were created in the 1930s as a means to stabilize prices by limiting the supply of raisins on the market. The federal government can mandate that raisin growers not bring to market excess raisins in order to keep prices from fluctuating wildly.
