H.J. Res 15

By: Alex Bridges

Welcome back readers. I just wanted to make you aware of a bill that was introduced by Rep. Jose Serrano (D-NY). Similar bills have been introduced and defeated in committee, but of course our friends up in DC know that as long as they are persistent, it will pass one day, or at least they hope. The bill is H.J. Res 15, which proposes an amendment to on of my beloved documents, the US Constitution. Specifically the 22nd amendment.

Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

Other sponsors of similar bills include Harry Reid, Barney Frank, and Howard Berman. PST, if you take a quick look at these names you might notice a common theme.

Gentlemen, we can not afford to move backwards. We do not want a king. We do not want to emulate Cuba, and have the chance at an elected dictator. Leave the term limits alone and if you want to introduce something regarding them, start limiting your time in DC.
