Editor Update: I just noticed something ...The LEED ad leaves off Tamara Brogan and Mark Lilley in their list of "Womack Candidates". So who's financing their campaigns as well? Amazing what happens when you start talking about fiscal responsibility and smaller government. Don't you dare mess with the elitists' slush fund aka the taxpayer money they suck out of us!
Just the other day, an editorial appeared in the Herald about a new, kinder, gentler formed PAC in town - LEED which stands for Lee Education and Economic Development PAC. I have another LTE on me (I should ask for royalties) that I will reply to soon. But this article/ads on the GOP needs attention now. You'll see why.
The editorial (Sanford Herald - EDITORIAL The LEED PAC Will it lead or will it follow ) has a comment from the group, and I quote:
"Somewhere along the way, the gloves have come off in Lee County politicking and campaigning. LEED seems to be promising a softer approach."
And the editorial itself said this about the LEE GOP and its supporters: "But it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to assume that at least some of the motivation of LEED’s creators is to provide a counterweight to what’s taking part in the (for lack of a better term) more extreme wing of the Lee County Republican Party, whose stated and implied goals can pretty much be summed up this way: on the county level, to do away with the Lee County Economic Development Corporation and end economic incentives for industries, and on the school level, to part company with Lee County Schools Superintendent Jeff Moss and trim education spending."

Now let me give you some news: We, the Lee GOP, RWL, Young Republicans were informed the Herald would NOT cover our Republican debate last night. They had no interest in doing so. And they might print something if it was "just the facts". In other words, nice.
And then this was in this morning's paper (Thurs, April 19):
Earth to Democrats...Jim isn't running. Bush isn't running. Cheney isn't running. Game on big wheels. What are you afraid of? Your ad sounds just like it was written by the other blogger in town. It probably was. Just speculating though.
I'm supremely surprised this doesn't say "Paid for by the campaign to re-elect the biggest RINO in town - Doc Oldham". Oops forgot he has an ad in the paper as well promoting his "good intentions" that will eventually lead to higher taxes and more of your taxpayer dollars being misspent.
And oh yes, he hasn't asked for any help from the GOP. And he is running under the disguise of Republican.
This caring, good intentions individual didn't have the courtesy to reply to the invitations to two Republican Women forums (His ad says he is courteous!). Not a word. Not a word to decline. What does that tell you? It tells you Republican votes are not worthy! If a "R" disses the very ticket he states he is on, that is the best advertisement for hypocrisy I have ever seen. And alot of voters have noticed.
I ask with all sincerity, who is financing his campaign? Voting records do not LIE!
But to the Sanford Herald Editor - what the heck do you call evil then if, using your same instruction to the GOP yesterday, you print this "nice" ad and call us extreme in your editorial?
Every time Billy Ball wrote an article he put the word "conservative" in because the Herald says we call ourselves that. Using that same logic, we have not called ourselves extreme. So maybe some explaining should be done. Here's your forum go for it.
All of my 5 readers, the Dems, and maybe the Herald itself, thinks I have will be delighted.
(You'd be surprised at how many read this blog. Enough and far wide to get this blogger a trip to Vegas, expenses paid. More to come on that!)

Perhaps the herald is simply reporting what most noticed long ago, the extreme right wing tea party members continue to isolate the republican party and ensure it's standing as a party destined to garner 25% of the vote going forward. Hell even the great Ronald Reagan would be branded a RINO with his documented support for raising taxes over 20 times in his career. Many of the less extreme both locally and nationally continue running for the exits when confronted with the possibility of being ideologically tied to the extremist of the tea party wing.
Good luck going forward with your slash and burn approach to governing this county, it's schools and the country in general. The awakening to the goals of the corporate masters who pull the strings and dictate the course of the tea party and it's members with their super pac dollars will not be lost on the general population going forward. What was noticed long ago by most? That the conservatives (Doc Oldham ran as one in 2008) have won the Sheriff's seat, an at-large position and three of four district seats on the BOC, at-large seat on the Sanford City Council, two conservative candidates who received a greater vote total than Poly Cohen last election, helped defeat the good ole boy candidates in the last city election (sorry Bobby Powell and David Nestor) helped elect the Mayor and defeat the good ole boy candidate (Hestor) and sent 7-term incumbent and chief good ole boy Jimmy Love home from the House.
If memory serves correct, when the party stopped worrying about the RINOs in the last election cycle, the conservative candidates won by landslides. One of the largest landslide margins was for Jim Womack. One of the three county commissioners that consistently votes to reduce the general population's taxes. I suspect that will not be lost on the general population.
Do you remember who the commissioner was that voted regularly with Doc Oldham and was up for re-election in 2010, that lost in a landslide? Hint, she's one of the two democrats that filed in 2012. Do you think she'll lose by a bigger margin this time? With the help of rich-guy PAC, BLEED, the statistical probability is as great as the likelihood that Doc Oldham will vote to raise taxes so he can give an incentive to Kirk Bradley's rich friends.

So who did pay for the attack ad on Womack?
I am not necessarily the brightest bulb in the bunch. But I do know one thing. You cant keep spending money you dont have!
And when you borrow, soon or later someone is going to want it payed back.
We are in the middle of the ocean, the boat is taking on water, and sinking, and we have folks telling us to just put on our swimming trunks, and sun tan oil.
Oh yea, about the herald. They removed a comment I made about Mr Moss. Said I violated a policy they had. I asked where it was at, so I could see it, and understand my violation.
They wrote me back ,and explained what I had said.
I agreed that what I said was in poor taste on hindsight. You know what though? I have seen much harsher language used consistently against conservative letters to editor with no response from them.
Heck if you got some of the calls I get after some of my letters you would be steaming.
I guess they only monitor when they are against certain type citizens. Or perhaps Mr Moss made a call himself.......just thinking out loud.
They are very protective of Dr. Moss. Trust me on that one.
O,
So the conservatives got Rebecca Wyhof elected so she could go speak against the "Womack Tax"? So you elected someone who would oppose you? To quote Lewis Carroll, "Curiouser and curiouser!".
-Randall Lee Yow
Isnt' the city council NON PARTISAN?? Or is that just a term the left uses when its convenient?
The BOC isn't! And it's obvious someone is financing a certain RINO's campaign. Especially since he hasn't asked for any help and he won't even come to our events.
Hypocrisy abounds!
Mr Marks,
Just some facts now, Sanford and Broadway have both lowered their tax rates within the last 8 years. The argument that they need to "sharpen their pencils" when they have made cuts and lowered taxes is on some shaky ground.
-Randall Lee Yow
Business Privilege Tax was repealed after Rep Mike Stone advocated for it and the people's voices were heard. It was stupid in the first place and one reason, if not the main reason, Steve Brewer was sent packing.
Where else have taxes decreased? Did they ever build the $100,000 sign you protested? It was great LTE. But what happened?
Sanford:
Lowered property taxes one cent by hundred dollar evaluation. Repealed Business Privilege.
Broadway:
Lowered property taxes twelve cents by hundred dollar evaluation! Plus was able to cut and move enough money to increase the police force by 50%(from two to three).
-RLy
Randall: Then what's the deal! If it can work in Broadway it can work anywhere.
I don't care who proposes savings, just propose and get it done.
Sounds like Broadway has figured out something vital - more money in the taxpayers pockets and they spend more and that generates more revenue. And efficient planning and spending taxpayer dollars wisely allows our government to function better! And we are provided with the necessary services to keep us safe.
Good grief. Why can't Sanford do this?
You're on to something, frienemy!
Stone and Taylor pushed for the repeal of the Business Privilege Tax. They then worked with AFP to get Sam Gaskins elected. The three of them voted with Poly Cohen, who was quite irritated at how much the BPT cost his business, to get rid of the BPT.
The one cent reduction in property tax is the only property tax reduction in the City of Sanford this millennium.
The BPT was only projected to bring in $250,000 in revenue. That is only 1/4 of what Sanford adds to their fund balance each year. The $0.01/$100.00 valuation is about the same annual revenue. Both of these reductions would have left Sanford with an extra $750,000.00 in revenue to add to their fund balance.
The City of Sanford has not reduced their budget this millennium.
Budget/Noun:
An estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time.
The City reduced the income it had coming in. That is a simple fact. The fact that it is the only time in this millennium that the tax rate has been reduced is true, but considering that we have 988 years left I think we have sometime on our hands to make something happen. How many times has the County lowered it's tax rate or for that matter lowered any fee this millennium? Because I cannot think of one, and once is better than none.
Even if they cut the money going into the fund balance or an auxiliary funds that is still a reduction in the budget. You budget that money to go in there. Most household budgets include personal savings accounts and that is considered part of the budget. Now you could make the argument that the City puts too much money aside, and you are welcome to express that as an opinion (Mrs Barber has), but less money coming in means less money in the budget (regardless of where it goes), e.i. a reduction in the budget.
-Randall Lee Yow
The budget %for the rainy day fund for the county is about 14%. The budget % is much much higher for city.
I wouldn't argue about the slush fund in great economic times. These are not that.
You simply can't just keep milking a cow who has long since quit producing milk.
The Budget is an estimate. Our City Manager gets it wrong by One Million Dollars every year, dating back to Leonard Barefoot's time. I am sure a Lee County School graduate, after remedial classes at CCCC, would not make this same mistake year after year. But this improper and unethical budgeting is not a mistake, it is intentional, so that Hegwer can direct money to wasteful things he wants and therefore avoids the scrutiny that the council must approve in a budget.
The City has not reduced the budget, year over year. When Hegwer generates a budget for 2013 of One billion Dollars and then reduces it to an amount higher than it was in 2012 that is not a reduction in the budget.
Call the Mayor or Hegwer and ask them when the last time the City budget was less than the prior year and report back if you believe they have actually reduced the budget from a prior year.
I went back and reviewed some other comments from the past. Townsend was called a demented homophobic racist in one comment.
Scared to look at comments against Kirk Smith.
I think I was censored for jerk, and arrogant.
Seems you have a point after all!
