Nestor Wins the Prize!

"Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views,
but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views."William F. Buckley, Jr.

William F. Buckley, Jr. was a great man of our times.  Where are these  men today?  We can only imagine if we had such a man leading our country!  What would America be like?  Ponder on that.

Anyway, as you can see David Nestor, Adcock Realty,  beat out Steve Brewer, The Flame, as the choice for the new tourism bureau chief in the Fresh Brew poll we had running last week.

This poll is not to be used for any other political purpose except to show the lunacy of the City Council and to prove they think they can do whatever they want. The General Assembly will not engage in the discussion.   But that hasn't stopped the threat of  Sanford residents picking up the bill.  According to the Sanford Herald, the Mayor plans to keep right on target and making the tourism bureau come to life... See below.

Mayor  Olive- when you can fix the empty store fronts, the high unemployment, the long lines around our nonprofit centers of those needing help, you'll get my support.   Until then, go back to the drawing board with your LEED Brat Pac friends (ie, Woodruff, Nestor, Oldham, and Brewer) and get REAL solutions.

Proposed occupancy tax not introduced in General Assembly
by ANNA JOHNSON
SANFORD — The City of Sanford will have to look outside of an occupancy tax to fund a tourism bureau, at least this year, as the deadline to introduce such a bill passed Wednesday without any proposals.

N.C. Rep. Mike Stone, R-Lee, chose not to introduce legislation that would have granted the Sanford City Council the power to enact an occupancy tax to fund the tourism authority.

“I appreciate the city’s desire to increase taxes, but I have stated since I was a candidate that increasing taxes in any way is simply not acceptable in this business climate,” Stone wrote in an email. “I’m hopeful that the city will consider looking at the money that is collected currently and that they will prioritize those funds as they see fit.”

Supporting this tax would mean that residents are under-taxed and this is not the case, he wrote.

Mayor Cornelia Olive said the decision to not support the occupancy tax is short-sighted and will place the cost on local residents.

Not one was disenfranchised. Isn't that amazing??

What's your point about 16? You must think no one reads this blog outside of Sanford City limits.

Besides what it shows is no one really cares about how important it is to have a tourism bureau. We don't need one.

It's more important to fix our freaking unemployment and other things.

It's time you run for office and fix the problems of Lee County, the School Board, and the City.

More joy on the outside showing how obscene the liberals are!

Thats just what they would want - to shut me up and make me follow "standards".

16 people is about how many people support Sam Gaskins in his dinner club!

Headline should read "David Nestor can win"

Why wasn't Hayes considered he is the "cultural elitist" and is not running again-wait a minute-Hayes perhaps would want to challenge Gaskins first in a game of chess to determine who runs for mayor, I am sure they might enjoy a mint julep and take in a play prior to doing so.

They are cut from the same mold....
