Would you Pay $150 a Gallon?

I must admit I had to do a double take.  Seriously?  With all the talk of how "green" we should be and how horrible fossil fuel is for America, you would think green technology , since our government has thrown billions of dollars into the industry, would be affordable and welcomed.

But $150 a gallon for jet fuel?  Made from algae!

Well, my dear, if green means this, forget it.  Our government can use conventional fuel at $2.88 (see article).  That would mean $147.12 in savings.  And that my friends, would feed a family of four for at least one to two weeks.

Didn't Nancy Pelosi say our government just couldn't cut out anything else?  Well I think we've found a place.  And maybe if the Obamas quit acting like royalty and taking vacations every other month, we would save even more.  I wonder if Air Force one is on green fuel or fossil fuel?

Report: Pentagon paid $150 per gallon for green jet fuel

The Department of Defense paid $150 per gallon for alternative jet fuel made from algae, more than 64 times the current market price for standard carbon-based fuels, according to a report released on Wednesday.

The Government Accountability Office noted in its report that a Pentagon official reported paying “about $150 per gallon for 1,500 gallons of alternative jet fuel derived from algal oil.”

GAO’s report examined the financial challenges facing increased purchases and use of alternative jet fuels by federal agencies. “Currently, the price for alternative jet fuels exceeds that of conventional jet fuel,” the report noted.

The price for conventional jet fuel is currently $2.88 per gallon. GAO’s report reveals that federal agencies have paid significantly higher prices in an effort to promote biofuels in commercial and military aviation.
