Can't we all just get along?

Local people may have heard about the conflict between the Goathouse Refuge in Pittsboro and the nearby Range2A gun range.  Siglinda Scarpa, the owner of the refuge which houses more than 250 animals, says that some of the animals are stressed from the noise coming from the gun range.  She wants to range gone, and has started a campaign to bring about just that.

The gun range owner, Mark Atkeson, claims that he has tried to work with Ms. Scarpa and that she isn't willing to compromise.  She just wants the gun range gone and will settle for nothing less.

The fact is there might be animals stressed by the gun range.  I had a dog that could went into seizures, literally, when seriously scared.  Some animals are more sensitive than others, and if there are over 250 animals at the refuge it is believable that a few are stressed.  Even so, the gun range is within zoning restrictions for the county and has a right to be there, just like the refuge has a right to be where it is.

It seems that these two owners should be able to co-exist.  First, though, Ms. Scarpa will have to accept that the gun range likely isn't going away.

Here's an article about the situation:
