It's here...GOP Pledge with America

FINALLY!
House Republicans Roll Out ‘Pledge to America’
"America is more than a country.
America is an idea – an idea that free people can govern themselves, that government’s powers are derived from the consent of the governed, that each of us is endowed by their Creator with
the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

America is the belief that any man or woman can – given economic, political, and religious liberty – advance themselves, their
families, and the common good..."

having read all 21 pages it would seem this is at best much ado about nothing, as the 60's tune from "The Who" said so correctly, "new boss...same as the old boss". this pledge says nothing and continues the current repulican policy to do nothing. curious to see if in fact the tea partiers will fall back in line with the old guard republicans, time will tell.

Hmm. Is that all you are worried about - old republican guard? Are you now, Mr. Anonymous on the bash the tea partier bandwagon? It doesn't occur to you that higher taxes are coming due to the relentless assault on American taxpayers? For once, put your priorities in the right place.

The pledge states what we, the right, want. And it sure beats socialism that the the left is giving us whether we like it or not. They don't even listen to their own polling data anymore and they were the ones who lived and died by it.

Thanks Sheila for being the first local blogger to post this Pledge. For your 'anonymous' commentator above, I would offer an observation the same can now be said of Obama and his hope and change promise of the 2008 season: nothing new there except record debt and a jobless recovery on the horizon.

Having heard a wide range of critical reviews of this pledge today, I finally got around to reading it. Frankly, I'm impressed. It has an even better framework surrounding the individual pledges than Newt's 'Contract with America' did in the mid-1990's. No doubt, Boehner et. al. will be adding 'red meat' to this framework in the coming weeks. It would have been political suicide to offer all the details of the plan this early in the mid-term election cycle.

Most impressive in this early version of the pledge is the clear influence of the tea parties. Now that's encouraging...the GOP is actually listening to the patriots!

I can't wait to see what's coming!

both of you are much more easily impressed than the vast majority, the pledge as it is called says nothing and promises to do even less. just a few of the things it fails to address..

1. no mention of the 100 or so trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities facing medicare/medicaid and social security.

2. earmarks, no mention of them or the need to permantly ban them. apparently pork is ok if the repulicans take back control

3. balanced budget or other spending limit legaslation, no real mention much less policy outlines.

i was unaware that speaking of a balanced budget, earmarks, and addressing social security are now considered political suicide. based on their past i would say it is suicide to trust the same old repulican leadership that has done nothing to indicate they have fiscal responsibility or the desire to enact policy that will address the real issues facing our nation.

And your answer, Anonymous, is what?

I'm sorry. I think this is the pot calling the kettle black. Incentives come to mind? They are suppose to be the answer to all of Lee County's ills. Isn't that how you try to sell it to us?

You know, we give a $1 and you give us $.50 cent back? Why not let me keep the $1 and you benefit from the tax revenue of me spending the dollar? Dang, that's un-American, Sheila. Why would you want to keep your money that you earned by working hard? This same concept goes for corporations. Cut taxes across the board (for me, you and Caterpillar, Parkdale, etc). All four of us are now spending the $1 instead of worrying about IF, IF, IF we'll get back $.50 cent. Which we know the common taxpayer won't get an incentive. Nope. Just the big boys. But that's common sense and we know the left won't use theirs. To heck with Java Express, Steele Pig, Avent's, Crossroad Grill and others. Now that will create jobs.

Let's address Medicaid/Medicare: You got universal healthcare on March 23, 2010. Isn't that the solution to Medicaid/Medicare woes? It's funded. By me and you. By some serious devious ways too.

It's only suicide to keep with the current administration and go down the path to socialism.

Come on give us the answers.
